Great staff make all the difference

I really enjoyed my meal here on Saturday night. After so many experiences with indifferent surly teenagers I'd forgotten what a difference a great waitress makes to the experience. We ate in the pub rather than the dining area and the girl at bar served us. She was everything you want from... read more

As the previous review we went on the 24th may booked a table in the dining area for 2.30 and were promptly seated in a surprisingly quiet restraunt. Orders were taken within 10 mins however our food did not arrive for well over an hour later, which I was willing to forgive as we had been offered a free round... More

Looked lovely and ordered a sandwich and chips in the bar. 30 minutes later we asked where our food was and was told it was coming. 45 minutes later they delivered the wrong order which we sent back. 50 minutes later a clueless teenager asked us what the problem was! At that point we walked out after offering to pay... More

We visited here after walking the dog as the pub is very dog friendly. Saltaire Blonde and Black Sheep on offer, both classics. We both had a burger which were very tasty. The food is slightly on the pricey side which the burger costing around £12 with an extra. The burger comes with chips which are some of the best... More

My husband & I dined here at lunch-time on Easter Saturday. The building was extremely cold &, whilst a young male employee was trying to light the woodburner, it should have been lit far earlier in view of the low temperature. Whilst I enjoyed my meal, my husband chose steak & kidney pie for main course. It consisted mainly of... More

Went walking the dog on the Glen and stopped for lunch, lots of people drinking not many eating? We both had just a main meal of Cornbeef Hash, sorry but it was not hash as I know it, it was a rounded pile on a plate and very very dry???? No gravy and cost £13 each! It will be just... More

Beer Excellent. Wine Good. Food average. Pudding poor. Dead flowers on the table. When I booked I specifically asked that there were at least 3 veggie options. My husbands first choice Mushroom wellington was off. My friend, having been informed that the haddock was off, he chose the Seabass also off, but Haddock was on (lack of communication there). Pulled... More

Ate here mid week on a cold evening. The fire was lit but looked like it had been left to die out at 7.30pm. Had a pie - pork, Apple and Stilton. Strange combination and it didn't work. Pork too chewy. No hint of Apple and the cheese was far too runny. Presentation was poor - served in the dish... More

Dreary sunday lunch which took an age to arrive. Over cooked and dry beef, inedibly hard and fibrous parsnips, yorkshire puds tainted by burnt taste (of overheated or overused cooking oil?). Other meals slightly better but still not great (Pork Loin on black pudding mash, for example, looked unappealing but tasted ok). Saltaire blonde was lovely, Black Sheep bitter a... More

Unfortunately the weather caught out the catering out the day we visited. It was a lively day and they thought everyone would want sandwiches. This was not the case! Most were wanting Sunday lunch. Consequently they ran out of some things and the wait was exceeding long. The food was nice -when it arrived but the veg tended to be... More
