New location, same good food

My wife and I visited Gwen’s during our recent trip to Anguilla. Gwen’s old location, which we visited during our last trip (see my previous review) finally succumbed to erosion, so she moved to a new location at the other (west) end of Shoal Bay East. We wanted to spend an afternoon on Shoal Bay... read more

Not much happening here. We've only heard about how great the last location was but this new location doesn't have much going on. We were looking forward to hammocks and there none. We were looking forward to live music on Sunday but there was none (the band was there and set up but I think they were too busy smoking... More

I was so happy to discover Gwen's is now open again. Different location. It's at the other end of Shoal Bay, but same great experience. We had a delicious meal, red snapper and barbecue. The rum punch is the best! Went on a Sunday, and there was good live reggae music! Perfect spot for a relaxing day on Shoal Bay,... More

Location is near an end of Shoal Bay that is easy to walk to but not so easy to drive to (very rough and steep end). She has recently moved from the original location and the new property still has a bit of a "raw" feel to it. There is no electricity yet so all food and drink is brought... More

the service is scarce, the food is not very good, but the price is too high. It looks like a place abandoned in the middle of nothing. Very rasta like.

This was the best BBQ we had when in Anguilla. They make their own charcoal which they explained to us is the secret to their ribs. The rib platter was unbelievable, some of the best we've ever had. Gwen makes her own BBQ and hot sauce which makes it all the more delicious. When you're done with lunch, Shoal Bay... More

When we visited, she was in the process of setting up. Gwen's didn't have power and the bathroom was a port-a-potty that stayed clean which surprised me because in my experience with them, they tend to get nasty. They plan to plant palm trees so they can set up hammocks as well. Scratch Band still performed on Sunday. They were... More

Hard to imagine any spot on this beautiful island being any prettier than Gwen's new location. They are at the bottom of a steep driveway in Shoal Bay but it is well worth the walk down the hill to see the special view. Friendly service, good barbecue with ribs/chicken combo - it is pricey - $22 for that special and... More

Gwen's is being rebuilt after her original Anguilla institution collapsed into the sea and the palms holding the hammocks fell ov. You can reach it from above down a steep track or by walking along Shoal Bay East, arguably Anguilla's loveliest beach. All the usual beach fare is here: rum punches, beer, grilled chicken, etc - pretty basic but fine... More
