The food is refined and sophisticated, the wine list is superb with some real surprises, and the service is warm and friendly without being intrusive.

As we drove into Ercolano we were a little apprehensive. The town looks very run down. We walked to this restaurant from our hotel with quite low expectations. The service was delightful. The waitress translated the black board menu for us. No mention of cost. The food was world class. The shared anti pasto plate was devine. The shared dessert... More

I was in Naples for a business visit, and my business colleagues from Naples had decided to choose this place for spending the evening. It is close to the Ercolano excavation site, as I observed while traveling in Ercolano. But it is a good distance from Fuorigrotta, and I was hoping that the food would be worth the ride. It... We walked along to this restaurant after visiting Herculaneum and because it was quite late for lunch we thought it might be closed. However, not so; the staff were very welcoming, translated the blackboard menu for us and produced a delicious meal of soup, fish and dessert. We had wine by the glass and coffee and the price was extremely... More

Excellent pasta and wonderful fish plates. Not expensive, but judgemental. We had just visited Mount Vesuvius with the kids, we were tired and looking for a place to eat. Everything was closed, that's when we spotted Viva lo Re. Unfortunately, it seems that something looked wrong with our appearance - one waitress was checking our clothes and for a moment... More

We came in for lunch after viewing the archeological site. The hostess was very welcoming, translated the menu into English for us, and suggested a wine to go with our food, that was very good. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very nice, but not stuffy. The food was very good, including pasta and antipasto starters, and mains of seafood... More

We came in for a late lunch after visiting the archeological site. Wonderful spaghetti, excellent fish in salt and a very tasty dessert. Worth every penny - and indeed the wine was very good as well. Prices for this are very reasonable. Great experience!

After our hours at the archeological site, we were very happy to arrive at Viva lo Re. And what a treat we were in for! The place is gorgeous, service friendly and professional, and the food & wine selection fantastic. HIGHLY recommended. Go for local wine.
