Good Ambiance

We were in Kurunegala for few hours and for lunch people recommended this place. Spaced over some open area the place was decently arranged in rustic theme, with bamboo structures to provide you cool feeling in the daytime, as this place is open from sides and have no AC. First lunch on our holiday, and it was very good. Hadn't quite worked our that this was restaurant for coach parties, but it did us well. I had two first course: an amazing crab soup - perfectly packed with flavour, followed by an interesting green salad: apple, courgette, sugar-snap peas, lettuce. The men in my life all declared their curry... More

Very expensive for Sri Lankan standard (fixed menu 1200 LKR), the only place in two weeks travel where we did not find fresh looking food. The soup was made out of Knorr powder and the rest was insipid and bland at best. Not overly friendly personnel which is unusual in Sri Lanka.

Saruketha is conveniently placed as a comfort and meals stop. The atmosphere is pleasant. The service and food must be improved. We were a group of 43 persons from several countries, including Sri Lanka, and the staff cannot cope with such numbers. The toilets, although reasonably clean, have to be upgraded. The floors are constantly wet. The toilet cubicles are... More

The selection is limited and the food is not so nice compared to the price. I felt that this is one of the tourist trap that our driver would like us to try so he can get a free lunch or maybe a commission for bringing us here. They serve western and local Sri Lankan food. Nice setting but nothing... More

We stopped here on our way to Dambulla. It was pretty early - before 8 - so we just had coffee, juice and fruit. The fruit was delicious and the drinks very good, too. The service was friendly and efficient. We also saw palm squirrels (big and small), monkeys and a kingfisher. Definitely worth a stop. The food menu looked... More

Excellent buffet of Sri Lankan cuisine, nice traditionally built dining room. Service is efficient and smiling. Mostly tourists but quite a few locals.

Saruketha provides an authentic village experience-from cuisine, huts, interior decor, exterior, staff attire. The entire experience is pleasant-transports you to a different world. The view outside is magnificent, and garden or yard area has plenty of indigenous plants and trees. So other than eating, and enjoying the scenery/ambience, you also get to learn a bit about Sri Lanka.

Simply put, a tourist rip off conveniently located. We ordered a butter chicken which was really bad and chop suey veggies, barely ok, disappointing!
