I don't know what all the rave reviews are about. When we visited today the standard was pretty poor, the food was not particularly hot or to a good standard. Indeed we didn't finish it. Service was a bit scrappy and essentials like salt and vinegar were missing and had to be requested. Not in a rush to return here.

Have visited here 5 times in the past 18 months.I had the large haddock chip and peas. The fish was actually the best fish I've ever tasted in chip shop. The texture ,freshness sweetness and taste were perfect. But it got better. The brilliant assistant Jan noticed I'd finished the chips and peas but still had half the magnificent fish... More

"Arguably the best chippy in the world" it says on their website. No argument about as far as I'm concerned. I consider myself as a bit of a connoisseur as far as fish & chips go, & I can say without doubt they are amongst the best I've had in living memory. OK, so the parking is a bit tight... More

Brilliant fish and chips. All freshly cooked and sensible portions. The gravy is amazing if you're a chips and gravy fan. And the vanilla slices... wow. It must be good if they can afford to be shut at the weekend don't you think...?!?

A local institution, I had to go once. You can eat in and look at the canal behind but on this occasion I collected a take away. It was good but not exceptional and quite expensive. An efficient production line, it was well attended the day I went. This is perhaps unsurprising given it is not open that frequently. Many's... More

Grandma Pollard's is a bit of an institution in this area. People come from miles around to enjoy fish and chips or home made pies either in the restaurant or to take away. It's still very much a family concern, the owner, Tony Pollard, often serving behind the counter. Fish is cooked to order, so you may have to wait... More
