Good mixed grill with quality meat to sink your teeth into!

The establishment is lovely looking inside and out, clean and warm with an amazing view from the back over the hills. Menu is a bit fussy and some items are rather expensive but we have been here a few times and tend to always have the mixed grill. If you are in a rush however do not order this... read more

We had a lovely meal sat at a table by the window overlooking the valley. It was a quiet Friday lunchtime with only 3 other tables occupied so can't judge what it would be like on a busy day. There is a large selection on the menu, I had Lamb which was excellent and my Dad said it was the... More

I can keep this one short: an ordinary, bland, modern pub, with ordinary service, serving ordinary beer and ordinary pub food... BUT in truly gigantic portions ideal for walkers. Prices look ordinary or even slightly expensive until you see the size of the serving and realise it's exceptional value for money. Big windows to see the beautiful setting it's in,... More

This was our first visit to the shepherds rest after a friend recommended it. The menu is quite big but full of wonderful home cooked dishes. I opted for the rag pudding and my husband opted for the double rag pudding - which was brilliantly presented and cooked to perfection. Our son chose sausage and chips from the children's menu... This pub is very special to me. I know this sounds like it's on the down side, but we had my Aunts wake there after her funeral. It was very OK - do you know what I mean? Everything was perfect. The landlord and landlady and all the staff where just brilliant. I'll never forget their kindness. I have been... More

This country pub is in an outstanding location, situated high above Todmorden on the Lumbutts Road. The Pennine Bridleway National Trail is on the opposite side of road, and from here you can walk up over the brow of the hill to reach Gaddings Dam , an unexpected reservoir perched on top of a hill, with reputedly the highest beach... There are few better places to be sat for lunch, with the countryside stretched out in front of you. The food was great too, excellent rag pudding and gravy. We even got brought extra chips, which were just too much to polish off. Staff very welcoming too.

We were taken for dinner by a couple of friends who are regulars and live local to the Shepherds rest . A pint of well kept Jennings was a good start swiftly followed by another to accompany a steak and mushroom pie. This was beyond doubt one of the best pies I have eaten (after my wife's steak & kidney... More
