The food at Irvins is invariably good, and the sunday lunch is fabulous. However, in my experience the service isn't always top notch, particularly at peak periods. For a restaurant that maintains a high standard of cooking this is an area they really do need to focus on as there is now a lot of competition in the area.

Wanting to lift the January gloom we booked for a return trip to Irvins which proved a good choice. Excellent food and service made for a great evening with the highlight being the Lamb Shank with cous cous. Only downside was the limited choice of starters but still the best restaurant at the coast.

We like Irvins and have been many times before. It is one of those places that pleases and surprises you every time you go! Today we went for an impromptu lunch. The welcome was excellent and we were accommodated very quickly. The food was as always was excellent. There is always complimentary bread and herb butter, which was very welcome.... More

Hidden away in North Shields fish quay lies a little gem here. Open and spacious and very relaxed. Food was excellent. We both had the Beef rib and Yorkshire pudding with mixed veg. All in all for £25.00 per head for soft drinks and a 3 course meal on a Sunday afternoon and of that quality you would be mad... More

No matter how many times I go to Irvin's, I doubt I'll ever be bored of it. The staff are always incredibly friendly, welcoming and very knowledgable about wine, beer and their food. Instead of doing overly complicated, pretentious food they choose excellent produce, including local Fish Quay fish and regional meats, done very, very well. The setting can be... More

Went with family for a birthday - and couldn't have asked for a better experience. There was a live singer, and she was just fantastic - she made the atmosphere just great. Also, the menu is fantastic - I love that pretty much everything can come as either a starter or a main! Squid was just perfect, and the duck... More

We were immediately struck by the spacious bare brick, utilitarian interior in the style of a New York City restaurant. The food however is English with a leaning towards fish dishes. Well cooked and presented. The waiters seem to care. The menu is broad and comprehensive. The price is reasonable and the food is good quality.

We were looking for somewhere for lunch and called into Irvins. We were shown to a table and the drinks order taken quickly and efficiently. The food order was taken and arrived in a reasonable time. It was very tasty and after one course and a healthy portion of fresh and well cooked vegetables we were full. I had overhead... More

2nd visit here and still my favourite restaurant hands down, ever! Everything is top notch, the attention to detail in all aspects of the food is second to none. The presentation, the flavours, all of it was spot on! Should be way busier than it is, quite simply brilliant!
