Lovely batter makes the fresh fish perfect. Plenty of choice and very good service. Very reasonable prices too. Highly recommended.

We, the thrice, arrived at the fish quay for 12:30 on a Friday. Evidently the Geordies (peace be upon them) had quite enough of Christmas leftovers and demanded some fish and chips on a clear, fresh and wig-threateningly blustery day. Predictably the gaff was bursting at the hills and the queue was out the door and a dozen deep. We... More

Tried this place as the usual , Oceans was busy and a nightmare waiting outside with a 16 month old. The Waterfront was equally busy but waited for a seat. Opted for haddock which was ok. Kids went for kids 'fish and chips' told off the 'rough' staff that it was cod!! It got left as, cos isn't meant to... More

Lovely chunky white fish, which was fresh and cooked well. We took ours to the car park and watched the sea. Recommend highly

My guilty pleasure is to pop in here whenever I'm down at the coast. Always busy with regulars and visitors alike and often have to queue to get in its so popular. My favourite is lemon sole with a few chips and mushy peas brown bread and butter and lashings of tea! Really good value for money and huge portions... More

After a festive trip to Tynemouth market our group decided on fish a chips at the quayside in north shields. Our usual stop is the waterfront for take away and park up to watch the boats go by on the Tyne. A bitterly cold winters day persuaded us to eat in. It was mid afternoon so we missed the dinnertime... More

Firstly, prepare to queue (out the door) to get a table to eat on a good clear day. We visited on a Tuesday December afternoon and spoke to a number of people who frequently visit on the metro from Newcastle just to eat here. Also worth mentioning that this isn't a pretentious restaurant, it is basic in appearance and you... More

Often queuing out the door but they seldom keep you waiting very long. The Waterfront is, in our opinion, the best fish and chip joint in the north of England. What more can I say?
