Eight of visited to celebrate our August birthdays, I had never been before but had heard good reports of the food. On entering we were asked if we wanted a drink but to be honest there wasn't much room near the bar to sit down, even less when the whole party showed up. The staff quickly showed us to our... More

I had never heard of this place before - a friend had organised a mystery outing for his birthday, and this was the destination. Ovington is a small village in the Tyne Valley, about a mile from the A69. I wouldn't have discovered this restaurant by myself, but it was well worth the visit. The restaurant is quite small, but... Stayed at a B&B in Wylam after our first day on the Hadrian's Wall Path and our hosts recommended Winships. They drove us there and picked us up when we had finished our meal, which was an excellent one. We had the sea bass and were very happy with our choice. The Summer Fruit Pudding for dessert was absolutely perfect.

On the spur of the moment we decided to go to winships for early evening meal, second time we've visited and again werent disappointed. The onion soup was so flavoursome and my husband highly rated his prawn starter. Mains were good, service was friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back.

We eat out in local restaurants on a regular basis and we alway find that winships seem to go that extra mile for the customer We recently had a lunchtime mixed platter for two. Fresh crusty bread home made pate plus many other delicious items. Great staff both front of house and in the kitchen

At short notice the owner of Winships provided an excellent menu for our guests, provided comfortable surroundings and a warm welcome. The three course menu was interesting, varied, delicious and the presentation amazing. Everyone commented on the fresh and hot accompanying vegetables (rare for such a large party). The deserts were also commented on throughout the day and several photographs... More

This was the end of our first day walking the Hadrian wall trail - and we were ravenous! The welcome was great from the minute that we walked in. The beer was very refreshing and was just what was needed after a long old day. The menu was wide and varied and the food lived up to the descriptions give.... More

I had a fantastic meal at thi restaurant, even more as it was totally unexpected. Lovely venue, very inconspicuous, they make you feel welcome the minute you step in and you get immersed in the atmosphere. Great service to lovely appetising food.

It's a couple of years since we've dined at Winships, which we always rated as consistently good and we weren't disappointed this time either. The food was splendid, 4 of us had different dishes and everyone agreed they were great, the plates were scraped clean!

I had a wonderful chicken dish that had a great sauce. My wife ordered the gammon and eggs and got a dish she didn't expect -- but all the food was good. They sat us upstairs and we were the only couple up there. Kind of weird!
