I found the restaurant thanks to the staff of my hotel, and is frequented by tourists, but many locals. The traditional cuisine consists of rice , accompanied with condiments of various kinds, meat, fish, vegetables and legumes. You can taste the pilao rice ( basmati rice with spices ) and ' mcicha , a local vegetable like chard. I personally... More

Cheap, delicious and popular with travellers and locals alike. You go up to the counter and pick what you want... I went a little overboard and got rice, pea and coconut sauce, fish curry (it was like a soup), spinach, and coconut naan for 8800 shillings. All were delicious, except the spinach. The coconut naan had a nice texture to... More

After a long day we ended up in Lukmaans, and was very suprised by the exciting flavours, many dishes and low prices. The food was so good that we just had to come back. At our first visit, the staff was very friendly and helpful.

If you are looking for some simple but true Tan/Zanzibari cuisine this is the place to be. I have eaten here at least a dozen times. Food is always fresh and tasty plus it is very cheap. You can eat a veggie meal plus water/soda for some TZS 4'000. Amazing. You also get your food rather fast but I think... More

Very nice authentic Tanzanian food in the middle of Zanzibar. The place was totally crowded and hectic right at lunch time. Everyone talking at the same time ordering in a complete confusion. I ordered some rice and vegetables plus tandoori chicken and 2 types of vegetable curries for both of us. We were eating local food with locals which was... More

Lukmaan is one of the finest restaurant that serve local food with a great value. But i recommend that people should be aware first with what they are going to eat because it is a bit crowded and you need to be quick in ordering

This place was recommended to us. It was really good with a great selection of fish, meat or vegetarian. You go to the bar to select your food, pay and then someone kindly helps you to take it to the table. The style of the restaurant is quite mediterranean with tables inside and out. It's clean and friendly. The food... More

I love the food at this place. Small and crowded place but still worth a visit when you are in Zanzibar. Two main food i like there is "Ndizi Tamu" and Biriyani. Real spicy Zanzibar food. Really enjoyed.

Lukmaan's is a great spot to try traditional Zanzibari dishes. A great spot that I frequent regularly the staff give good service in a hectic and often busy lunch counter style restaurant. From pweza (octopus) to biryani Lukmaans gives one a real taste of Zanzibari food.
