Hits the sweet spot!

This cute and charming little café eatery and bakery is just a short 100 yards/meters from the junction of highway 2 and route 13. Turn north on 13 and voilà! You're there. Situated right above the little tidal river (hence the name) parking can be a bit dicey especially at lunch time or fine... read more

Hello biased opinion here but from a previous review I would like to set strait that the "proprietor" is not the "Yorkshire" woman who is actually just a waitress . But the business is actually owed and ran by a Chinese woman who has owned it for over 4 years now. And we try and better our selfs everyday. I... More

While cycling on the confederation trail we had stopped by for lunch. This place was quite busy and had people coming and going all the time. Which to us was a message that it was the place to eat. My wife ordered the seafood chowder, and I had the soup of the day which was a tomato curry. Both of... More

Very Affordable. Service was quick. Homey feeling, lots of locals. Food was good, portions were good size. Nice to eat off real plates & metal cutlery compared to other breakfast restaurants.

Came in for a quick take-out coffee. Waitress behind counter mumbled something. Had to say pardon twice then just have up and asked for two coffees. Got two cups of hot dishwater with a vague coffee flavour. Threw it out a mile down the road and went to Tim's when we got to Charlottetown.

Nice hot breakfast sandwich on their own homemade bread! Not much beats that. Will have to go back for the fish cakes and beans!

Stopped by for late breakfast. It's very popular, but I'm not sure why. The service is slow, the tables are too close together, and the food is nothing special. Ordered the clam chowder to take away. Hardly edible- hard to find a clam anywhere, but filled with mushy potatoes and no cream to speak of. I used to stop here... More

Food is just OK, welcome is non-existent, service indifferent. They make it clear when you come in that they don't care whether you stay/eat/buy anything or not.....especially if you're not a "local", i.e. someone they know. Desserts that you can buy to take home are nothing special, typical PEI bakery stuff, i.e. day-old squares and pies. Not recommended.

We stopped in for coffee and baking for mid-morning snack. The cinnamon bun was very good - the coffee was average. The service was slow and disinterested. It was busy at the cash register and seemed like they were training a new staff person.

By the River Bakery and Cafe is a little hard to find, but you just have to look for a cluster of cars parked on the left side of the highway to find this gem perched along the river. There is a bakery which does all kinds of goodies including sugar free baking for diabetics, and a little seating area... More
