Not the best place but food is good and service is average; 500g lobster for 375 pesos (30 USD) in not bad... Right in front of the beach, no AC but changing rooms and beach showers make the deal....

Lovely atmosphere, but our fish was NOT at all fresh. There is no excuse for serving nasty old fish in a place like this. Not sure if they thought we wouldn't notice or just didn't care -- the response to my complaint was a shrug. Fortunately the French fries were pretty good, so at least there was something to eat.

On a beautiful beach location La Palapa serves fresh tasty seafood at reasonable prices. Our party (four of us) had a giant mixed ceviche (shrimp, conch, octopus) which was simple (just marinated in lime juice) a mozzarella and shrimp wrapped in tortillas dish, an octopus in its ink, and fish filets stuffed with seafood, as well as an order of... It is in town, right on the beach. You can sit inside or out. The food was really good, and the waiters were very attentive. Some spoke English. Which helped us. Order the ceviche!

Simple beachside location, and fish based menu. Much of the seafood comes from neighboring Campeche state but the small local shrimp find their way into the cocktails. Menu is limited and fish & seafood focused. Lunch for 3 ran about $50USD.

Dining at La Palapa is modern cuisine in a modern restaurant on an old-style largely empty Mexican beach. We visited La Palapa as part of a bus tour from Merida that went to Celestun primarily to see the pink flamingos that populate the nearby swamps.... a sight not to be missed. Dining at La Palapa was casual and unhurried. Food... More

After visiting the flamingo reserve, we had less time than we would have liked if we wanted to drive back to Merida in daylight. Our waiter was very helpful and had our meal served with uncharacteristic Mexican speed. Our table was a few feet from a large arch through which a few yards behind were the beach and the sea.... For a seafood restaurant this is a great place when visiting Celestun. As always in Mexico the table is soon loaded with tortilla chips and dips, with drinks soon to follow. The prawns and fish are very fresh and the service fine. Dishes served with rice, vegetables, mashed potato, and sauces. The atmosphere under the large palapa is memorable, and... More

Sitting under a large palapa with a cool gulf breeze, dining on fish and shrimp and sipping on a cervesa...who could ask for a more leisure afternoon ? This is a tourist stop for the Flamingo Tour groups so it is geared for the "sand and surf" crowd. If you are looking for "fine dining" this aint it. However, the... More

La Palapa has one of the best locations in Celestun right on the beach. In the hot summertime it is most likely a very popular place to dine. It was our misfortune to be there for lunch on a cool and partly cloudy day. The building is a very huge "palapa" ( thatched roof open air building), with a charming... More
