Cooking class...truly authentic Italiano!

Picked up at Varenna ferry stop and driven high up the mountain to our cooking class where we were joined by 10 others to learn some of the secrets of true Italian cooking. Fun, educational and ending with a delicious meal, and wine, of course! Highly recommended. Reserve on line.

Francesca picked up our group of 4 from the town's main square. She drove us up the mountain in a small mini van which was quite an impressive feat. Between all the narrow twists and turns, the drive itself was an experience. 10 minutes later we arrived at their quaint restaurant. Moreno immediately made us feel like family. He offered... More

After last years visit when we fell in love with this location, the b&b, the view, the restaurant and his owners we decided to get married here. We stayd here with our family and friends, for 1 week. We were all taken care of by the Maglia family in a way you would expect of your own family. The food... More

We went there for a cooking class and ended up learning what true Italian food was all about. He cooked and we ate, with plenty of wine and good cheer all around. Small group of 6 made asking questions and learning easy.

Hidden in the hills between Varenna and Bellano, this authentic Italian restaurant has been in the Maglia family for over 400 years. Chef proprietor Moreno Maglia produces amazingly delicious food from high quality ingredients while his wife, Rosella, expertly manages front-of-house. If there is one restaurant that you MUST try during your stay in the area, this is it. And... More

Recently visited and had a wonderful meal. The Lake Fish were crisp and tasty, followed by the best risotto I have ever tasted anywhere. Both the lamb and the beef was succulent and cooked to perfection. Cheese was an unnecessary but not to be missed last part of the meal. All from local producers/farms. We let Moreno choose local wines... More

it's that never achieved desire to find an exceptional restaurant in an off the beaten track... we managed that at Il caminetto with the help of a local Elana...much gratitude, and to the chef and his family for opening for us in late November. It is delightful that so many other reviews already rave about il Caminetto, let me add... More

I can't say enough about the cooking class that was held by Chef Moreno. We didn't know what to expect and since we only had two days on Lake Como we were a little concerned about spending a full day at the cooking class. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip! Chef Moreno has so... More

Our party of 8 signed up for a cooking class/demonstration with Chef Moreno. We were staying in Varenna and he picked us up in the Piazza and transported us to his magical restaurant. He is very passionate about food and life. His stories and comments while he prepared the wonderful meal were delightful. This was a special experience and I... More

I read about this restaurant in "Rick Steves Italy 2014". This was the highlight meal of our 6 week trip around Europe. My husband says it is probably the best meal he has ever eaten. The whole meal was wonderful but the risotto with porcini mushrooms and berries was superb. We will be returning and next time I will do... More
