The perfect first meal in Italy

One of the best meals I've ever had anywhere, Italy included. Not open on Wednesdays. Limited menu, so if you want them to serve the fabulous risotto with mushrooms and apples, call days in advance.

We were picked up in Varenna by the chef's pleasant wife at 7:30 pm and did not arrive back at our hotel until nearly 11 pm. This is much longer than any of us would have chosen to spend for a meal. The restaurant is up a windy road from Varenna and since we were driving a van we were... More

On our recent trip to Varenna, we had dinner at Il Caminetto. Chef Moreno and his wife were amazing. Between the two of them they wore many hats: Driver (we were picked up at our hotel and driven to the restaurant and back home by the chef's wife); waiter (the chef and his wife took our orders, delivered the food... We returned last night after having my birthday dinner 2 nights ago. Excellent value excellent food and to be picked up and dropped home after our meal was a big plus. We like variety so ordered the 17E degustation antipasti which was 7 truly delicious different samples plenty for 2 to share. The bill was another pleasant surprise this is... More

This restaurant is truly a unique experience! Nestled way up in the mountains above Varenna, a van will pick you up and drop you off which in our case turned out to be a very late evening. The food is excellent but being able to chat with Moreno who owns, runs the restaurant after a fabulous dinner was a real... More

Unquestioningly the best experience in our 3 weeks in Italy and Croatia. Will not ever forget it because of the educational understanding of Italian cooking presented by Marino, owner and head chef of the restaurant. But Marino's great sense of humor and warm hospitality made the class an exceptional experience. And last but not least, the food was To Die... More

A fabulous welcome awaited us as we joined dinners who had been picked up by the restaurant's shuttle service from town. We were staying nearby so walked. A wonderful menu of true traditional Italian treats, many things I'd never tried before, but I'm now glad I did. The river fish selection was delicious and the steak the best we'd ever... More

Picked up at Varenna ferry stop and driven high up the mountain to our cooking class where we were joined by 10 others to learn some of the secrets of true Italian cooking. Fun, educational and ending with a delicious meal, and wine, of course! Highly recommended. Reserve on line.

Francesca picked up our group of 4 from the town's main square. She drove us up the mountain in a small mini van which was quite an impressive feat. Between all the narrow twists and turns, the drive itself was an experience. 10 minutes later we arrived at their quaint restaurant. Moreno immediately made us feel like family. He offered... More
