Fabulous host! Fantastic menu and wine. Driven to a quaint and historical restaurant in the hills above Lago de Como. Moto Guzzi owner served my favorite meal of my 2 weeks in northern Italy! The risotto stunned me. Don't miss this one.

My friends and I decided to try the restaurant after reading about it in a guidebook. The cost looked reasonable and the excerpt mentioned that the restaurant would pick diners up in the piazza in Varenna (the restaurant is located high in the hills above Varenna). Il Caminetto exceeded our expectations! We had the best meal of our vacation and... More

We visited the restaurant and Chef Moreno for one of his cooking lessons. For the price we got coffee, meats/cheeses and then a pasta dish, roast pork and also risotto with lots of wine. Chef Moreno is engaging, friendly and full of amazing knowledge. They made special effort to cater for me (gluten free) which in Italy can be hard.... More

Nestling in the hills between Varenna and Bellano, Il Caminetto takes some finding but, trust me, it is worth the effort. The restaurant has been in the Maglia family for four generations and chef/proprietor Moreno Maglia is a skilled and talented chef. Home made pâtés, stunning pastas of the day and excellent mains. I especially like the risotto with wild... More

Rain on our last day of a 22 day trip made us change our plans and I'm so glad we did or we would not have experienced this wonderful restaurant! Our family of 7 was taken by taxi up the mountain (beautiful views), provided with an excellent meal, pates, pasta, meats, dessert and wine with the yummy limoncello to top... More

I can highly recommend to have dinner at Moreno's restaurant in the little charming village Gittana! We stayed at their B&B for two nights and ate one night at their restaurant. The restaurant was booked out that night. We ordered the beef which came on a hot plate and the risotto with some of the delicious red table wine. I... More

We had the tremendous pleasure of staying in Chef Moreno's bed and breakfast which is right across the lane from Il Caminetto (the restaurant). Our family of 4 stayed 2 nights and attended Chef Moreno's cooking class which was one of the highlights of our trip! The food was fabulous and we really enjoyed learning how to prepare the meal... We were lucky enough to be staying right in the town of Gittana, just a little up the hill from the tourist town of Vareena so Il Caminetto was our neighbor. Lucky us! We wanted our whole Italian experience to be authentic and neither the restaurant Il Caminetto nor our apartment (more like a little house) booked through Alessandra of... More

While staying in Varenna we visited Il Caminetto Restaurant for dinner. The Restaurant is up in the hills above Varenna and we were collected from the main Piazza in Varenna with another couple, who had also booked, and driven to the restaurant by Rosella, the Chef's wife. The drive up was a prelude to an enjoyable evening, with wonderful views... More
