So this is where it was hidden!

Could this be the perfect pub? No music, no slot machines, great beers, good service, brilliant atmosphere. This is the pub that we all wished we had close to where we lived, then again we may never stay away if it was too close. If you are looking for a real, proper pub then look no further here... read more

We met up with a group of friends on New Years Day and had a fabulous lunch. The utterly huge choice of food, displayed on the blackboards meant that there was something for everyone from fussy kids to grown-ups with varying allergies and the typical likes and dislikes. Food was served very quickly and did not disappoint. We all had... More

Thank you for your kind words and for your suggestion re signage we are always open to improvements. We are always pleased to receive comments about how a range of ages within a party enjoyed their food as it tells us the board is about right. The rustic nature of the pub continues to be one of the key factors... More

Real pub. Rustic with open fires. Excellent choice of beers. Food is proper pub grub well cooked & good value. Well supported by locals & would recommend it to anyone who likes pubs to be a pub not a motorway service station. Don't let the faded frontage put you off. Think the locals like it that way so they can... More

Who are we to disagree with that wonderful title and sentiment. Many thanks for your kind words of praise. It is advisable to book all through the week as we have been full early in the week as well as weekends. Thanks again, we are glad you enjoyed your time with us. More

We had a 3 night break, staying nearby and this pub was the highlight of an extremely wet trip to Somerset. So often, so many UK country pubs get the balance wrong - ie too Gastro, too expensive, too much TV and boring beer.........This pub however shows you how it SHOULD be done ! - a WONDERFUL selection of beer... This place came highly recommended by my parents, who are lovers of quality food. Initially we drove straight past as it looked closed down, the sign out the front was faded and the whole place looked a little run down. We turned around and went in to discover two lovely roaring fires and a menu of hearty home cooked tasty... More

So pleased you did call in and glad you enjoyed it. You make some interesting comments about us looking run down we will discuss this at some length now the holiday rush is over. We won't ever make a gawdy show of the building above and beyond its rural position and function but we don't want people to miss us!! More

Its nice to see responses from management, however, for those of you who know Andrew (and for those who don't) Andrew didn't get a figure like his by NOT knowing where the kitchen is !!!! What better endorsement does any establishment need?

There's nothing wrong with your eyesight is there lol!! I cannot disagree with you the food in this place is always a winner for those looking for home cooked delights in generous portions. Most of all the cheesecakes are especially a favourite of mine. More

Recently moved to the area with my husband and 2 kids. The kids were more than welcome and considering how busy it was, we were served straight away. The food was outstanding and the portions were large, kids portions available as well which was ideal. The staff were all lovely and the service was good and with a smile. Definitely... More

Spent Friday night in the Halfway celebrating Christmas with our family, a fantastic night all round but the meal was stunning. We decided to choose from their Christmas menu instead of the normal menu - and I have to say we couldn't fault it. Everything was tasty, presented lovely, piping hot ,and served quickly. Thanks to all the Staff for... More

Living in an area of Somerset with lots of "gastro pubs" it was wonderful to find a genuine country pub with amazing food, brilliant beers and ciders and lovely staff. Will definitely be back.

I have been coming to this pub for many years. Fortunately very little has changed; staff, beer and food all excellent. If I had one gripe it is that I do like a good curry. Historically these were very good but for the last couple of years or so they can be a bit hit and miss. Never a problem... More

Many thanks for your kind words re the pub and its stable nature. With regard to the curries it would be interesting to know why you are disappointed with them as we continue to sell a variety as you know. Please ask to speak with Mark or Adam on your next visit to discuss your thoughts. We are always open... More
