This is quite a find at the top of the High Street in Whitchurch. It provides a warm welcome, despite the decor. Food is well cooked, although relatively unadventurous. Staff are attentive and polite. Worth a visit if you like a more traditional pub.

Went for a swift half after playing tennis. Excellent pub, staff, ambience and beer! Discovered Erdinger German beer! Very nice!

We only stayed in Whitchurch for the one night and were so pleased we chose this cosy pub to have our meal. The staff were so friendly and the atmosphere was fab.I had the fish pie and my husband had the ham egg & chips - which were homemade chips by the way and it was all served piping hot.Would... More

Have been to the Bear a few times. Food is always excellent. Great atmosphere and decor inside. Friendly staff. Lots of tasty real ales.

We found this pub after walking into Whitchurch from the Llangollen canal where we had moored our narrowboat. What a great find. Friendly service, decent selection of real beers and quality pub food with hand cut chips if you fancy them. On 15 July 2014 when we visited there was a traditional folk group playing at one of the tables... More

Great menu and service. Dog friendly including water bowls and treats. Always good for lunch or dinner. Especially recommend bacon and black pudding.

Have been here a few times now and found it to be reliably good. It's home cooked/home made pub grub (not the frozen Fred's stuff that's on many a pub menu). There's only one veggie dish on the main menu each day, but it does change pretty much every day depending on what they've got left over/going spare/feel like cooking.... More

We had an impromptu lunch on a weekday here & can't say a better word - excellent food by pub standards. Very accommodating to individual requests regarding food. Staff very friendly. & welcoming. Great atmosphere, & a good selection of real ale (according to the husband!) Highly recommended for a pub lunch!

Seven of us arrived on a Saturday evening, complete with a dog, and despite being really busy and quite late they managed to find a couple of tables to put together for us. We had several different mains from the menu which were all excellent, and good value - I had a smoked haddock fish pie that was delicious, others... More
