If anyone wants a good pub meal in Whitchurch this is the place to eat. A group of us have eaten here on many occasions and never been disappointed. The atmosphere of this old world pub just adds to the wonderful food we have always been served. Every item on the menu seems to have that bit of something extra... More

A party of 28 of us returned again to the Black Bear, we pre-ordered due to numbers, everything on time, everything beautifully prepared, Beer excellent, warm welcome and really this is the best food and beer pub in Whitchurch.

Let me be honest: I'm a good cook and a fussy f@cker and I'm also really rather skint these days, so I don't like going out for dinner and getting something that (if I were that way inclined) I could get from Iceland (or similar) for a couple of quid. I've worked both behind a bar and in senior management... More

Came here on our last night in Whitchurch. Great selection of food and very tasty. Nice background music and polite nice hosts. They had a good selection of beers and whiskey's, and also books and games. We decided to play pick up the monkey :) You can park outside the pub after 6pm on the single yellow line which was... We visited Whitchurch by boat and spent several days in and out of the town from the nearby moorings. Sadly, we only discovered this pub on our last night. We had been patronising the White Bear at the other end of the high street, but were seen off by the horrible prospect of karaoke, and transferred to here. The beer... More

I have eaten at The Black Bear many times and have never been disappointed. It is a charming little pub with a lovely cosy atmosphere and friendly staff. I chose sea bass this time and it was cooked beautifully. The chips are 'proper' chips, not frozen ones like a lot of places serve. Would definitely recommend.
