Great menu and service. Dog friendly including water bowls and treats. Always good for lunch or dinner. Especially recommend bacon and black pudding.

I came here on the off chance with some friends after taking 3dogs for a walk, it's really nice to have dog friendly bars we sat out side and one of us ordered drinks and got some menus the service was great, the waitress came out to us took our order and was exceptionally helpful. Have been here a few times now and found it to be reliably good. It's home cooked/home made pub grub (not the frozen Fred's stuff that's on many a pub menu). There's only one veggie dish on the main menu each day, but it does change pretty much every day depending on what they've got left over/going spare/feel like cooking.... More

We had an impromptu lunch on a weekday here & can't say a better word - excellent food by pub standards. Very accommodating to individual requests regarding food. Staff very friendly. & welcoming. Great atmosphere, & a good selection of real ale (according to the husband!) Highly recommended for a pub lunch!

Seven of us arrived on a Saturday evening, complete with a dog, and despite being really busy and quite late they managed to find a couple of tables to put together for us. We had several different mains from the menu which were all excellent, and good value - I had a smoked haddock fish pie that was delicious, others... More

We went to this pub whilst on a short break after reading the reviews. We were certainly not disappointed. The pub is very nice and the staff helpful. The menu was varied and when my daughter asked for veggies instead of salad it was not a problem. the food was delicious, home made and locally farmed meat. We returned for... More

We ate here with friends Friday, 30th May and were glad we'd booked a table as this place was very popular. Food very good, proper pies and an excellent beef burger. Puds were excellent too. A bit of a queue for the bar - probably not enough staff to cover drinkers and eaters as we were not offered drinks at... More

For me the best pub in Whitchurch. Excellent selection of real ales, ciders and continental lagers. Very cosy atmosphere you could spend the whole day in here. My only blip is that other than a couple of the staff they seem very inexperienced and apprehensive/nervous in service. It may just be a training issue but I would expect the staff... More

I love the Black Bear Pub. We normally pop in there for dinner or lunch every few weeks or so. It has a nice cosy country feel inside, and the food is very very nice. Every so often we take the dog along as this pub is dog friendly. If your in the area and have never been, give it... More
