Good value eating

The black bear gives you good portions of home cooked food. The staff are welcoming and service was good, nice choice of beer and lagers in a pub setting. I have been here a number of times with friends and family and never been disappointed

This was a clean, homely place with a lovely atmosphere. There menu is simplistic but varied. Caters for children teenagers and specialized diets. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The food came after ordering at a very good speed, no waiting forever! Each meal was well presented, good portions and delicious. Good food at good... More

Always a lovely warm welcome and fab food at the Black Bear! I'm vegetarian and they always accommodate me if the choice on the menu isn't my favourite! x

Visited here with a group of friends we all live locally so we know it's good! Freshly cooked tasty meals and delicious puddings - 6 empty plates for both courses says enough. Staff were friendly too. Someone in our group who comes here more than me said the menu doesn't change much but for the occasional visitor like me that... More

A good old town pub staff are delightful atmosphere was very good, the meals we had were a bit underwhelming and my black pudding was very poor. We will try it again as it was quite busy so they must be doing something right, but leave the black pudding alone, there is a deli at the bottom of the street... More

We live fairly locally, but hadn't eaten here for about a year, what a surprise the menu was virtually the same. This is something many of our friends also comment on.We cannot quibble that the food is good, well cooked and sourced locally, so a little tweak here and there should be possible -go on surprise us! The service is... More

Eaten here several times, lunch, evenings and weekends and always been more than happy. Great food cooked to order and really friendly staff make it a great way to spend a couple of hours. We're local so it's on our doorstep but would strongly recommend anyone visiting Whitchurch to pay a visit to the Black Bear and enjoy a relaxing... More
