Driving back for the east Midlands to Wales stopped top see some friends in Herefordshire who suggested the Cottage of Content for lunch. After a adjusting to country lanes following a motorway cruise we safely arrived . I was not disappointed this was a wonderful sunday lunch in a different league to the usual pub fare. We called in for lunch on a bright but cold March day. We were shown to a nice table in the bar by a warm fire. The menu had a good range of pub classics and specials. My wife had fish & chips and I had Herefordshire rib-eye steak (with a little help from Daisy). Both were delicious. There was... More

Tucked away in the middle of the countryside close to the Wye Valley, this is the perfect pub, that has great character. From the moment you walk in and are greeted by either the owners Richard and Helen or their very friendly staff, you feel welcome. We stayed two nights and although the bedrooms are not pristine ,this is a... More

Started 2015 with Sunday Lunch at the Cottage on both the 4th & 11th January. We had the lamb first time & the beef second. Both excellent, home made gluten free soup, a treat for my wife who is Coeliac, Richard ( owner / chef ) makes her special gluten free gravy, nothing is to much trouble. Friendly & efficient... We had been to the cottage before and we couldn't wait to get back but...The food was okay but there certainly was not enough of it and the menu lacked imagination. The vegetarian dishes were very small, presented on the plate very nouvelle cuisine style, they lacked finesse and flavour (vegetarians do not necessarily have dainty appetites). The game crumble,... I visited this pub with two friends of mine to have lunch after visiting nearby Hoarwithy church. I am from the area and have known the place for years. It is located off the beaten track, so it is a nice quiet spot to have lunch. First impression when we went in to order the food was terrible. The woman... More

A delightful venue nestled in the wonderful Herefordshire countryside plays host to an excellent lunch and dinner menu, serving seasonal food of a very high standard. I stopped in for lunch with my family recently where the service was very attentive and the food on offer was superb. The ales were well kept and there was also a good cider... More

Ok #1 in Carey is a prized accolade but so far as I could see besides two other cottages and shire horse the pub is the only establishment in Carey. If you think Simon Rogan's L'Enclume in Cartmel is remote, then the CofC is the Ultima Thule of culinary travel. It lies deep in the picturesque Herefordshire countryside and we... More

We were a group of 6 adults and 6 children after a nice Sunday lunch after a big walk, Cottage of content was perfect! The food was excellent. We all had the roasts on offer which were a good size, great meat, and particularly nice parsnips?! The service was more than you would expect in a pub, all staff were... More

We were recommended this pub by the b & b owners and found the staff friendly and the food was really lovely and something a little bit different, it was certainly very popular so we were pleased we have been advised to book in advance.
