Description: Arresten is a local restaurant with a completely unique atmosphere in...
Arresten is a local restaurant with a completely unique atmosphere in Andenes, situated way above the arctic circle in Northern Norway. Arresten is actually the old jail in Andenes, restored with much love, as well as a lot of the original features intact. Everywhere you look you'll see bits and pieces from old times on shelves, covering the walls and dangling from the ceiling. You can sit in one of the original cells, or in front of the fireplace and have a wonderful candlelight dinner prepared with fresh fish from the fjord right outside, order from our extensive beer menu and enjoy our delicious home made dessert such as our own cloud-berry Creme Brulee, gorgeous pies, chocolate temptations and much, much more. We specialize in local fish, seafood meat, beef, lamb and as much as we possibly can, everything we serve is as genuine, and as locally produced as possible. We make, create and produce everything ourselves without shortcuts. This of course includes baking our own bread, cakes, cookies, pies and desserts. We only use real butter, lots of cream and...With every breath we take we put our heart and soul into every single plate we serve. Come by, stay a while, eat, drink, live, love and laugh... Fall in love with Arresten just as we have!

Simple, great tasting fresh food.

This is a nice restaurant, its quite homily inside with blankets for you to use. We booked via Facebook messenger which was convenient and we changed our booking time which they had no problems with. They were very prompt in replying to us. The menu was simple with options of fish and red meat. The... read more

We ate here a couple of times, my husband loves fish and really enjoyed the fish here. Norway is not great on vegetarian food but the chef was helpful in rustling something up, Absolutely delicious desserts in a lovely atmosphere with friendly staff and a nice log burner for some winter warmth.

The food was fantastic, staff were lovely & the restaurant is really romantic with an interesting history.... we had a perfect evening with new found friends followed by a snowball fight on the way back to our lodge! We really only came to Andenes for the whale watching, Arresten was an added bonus.... we're coming back chasing Orca's next January,... More

Andenes doesn't offer many places to eat out or hang out. We tried Arresten today and it was simply amazing. Great fish, stunning flavours, amazing service and beer selection. Good desserts and patisserie. All tasting fresh and home made. We are super happy with our lunch and dinner there.

My father and I dined twice at arresten and enjoyed traditional Norwegian cuisine with great friendly service. The halibut on the second visit was a highlight of the trip and so fresh it was in that morning and was beautifully cooked! Thank you

Really cool interiors, place is set up really well. Sadly the food wasn't all the good, very limited options. Food took a lot of time & expensive.

I wanted to try a local speciality - cod tongue, but it was not nice done! It should be fried for a long time, to get crispy. The waiter didnt understand norwegian, even he was from Sweden! :-(

There was not much on the lunch menu, which was fine for us as we where not that hungry. We decided to go for a BLT each. It was dismal. The bread was boring white in thin slices, lettuce of the less tasty kind undercooked bacon and oily soggy unimpressive potatoes. I regret we did not go to a place... More

This was a decent place to have dinner, very reasonable prices (compare to the rest of Norway). This place used to be the prison for the town and they converted it to a restaurant, so you sit in cell 1,2, etc.

I had never heard of the restaurant, and popped in with a friend after sightseeing at amazing Andøya. It was a cosy place, with a local, old fashion decor. Friendly and welcoming staff, who tried to answer all my questions as best they could. One did try to "bluff" me when he didn't know the answer... ;-) I had the... More
