Description: Arresten is a local restaurant with a completely unique atmosphere in...
Arresten is a local restaurant with a completely unique atmosphere in Andenes, situated way above the arctic circle in Northern Norway. Arresten is actually the old jail in Andenes, restored with much love, as well as a lot of the original features intact. Everywhere you look you'll see bits and pieces from old times on shelves, covering the walls and dangling from the ceiling. You can sit in one of the original cells, or in front of the fireplace and have a wonderful candlelight dinner prepared with fresh fish from the fjord right outside, order from our extensive beer menu and enjoy our delicious home made dessert such as our own cloud-berry Creme Brulee, gorgeous pies, chocolate temptations and much, much more. We specialize in local fish, seafood meat, beef, lamb and as much as we possibly can, everything we serve is as genuine, and as locally produced as possible. We make, create and produce everything ourselves without shortcuts. This of course includes baking our own bread, cakes, cookies, pies and desserts. We only use real butter, lots of cream and...With every breath we take we put our heart and soul into every single plate we serve. Come by, stay a while, eat, drink, live, love and laugh... Fall in love with Arresten just as we have!

Surprisingly excellent food in an unlikely location

We visited Arresten twice on a short trip to Andenes and it was the highlight of our visit. The food was top quality on both visits, both main courses and desserts. Halibut and local rosefish were superbly fresh and well prepared, as was the lamb (huge portions!) and homemade burgers that we had... read more

Lamb was superb. Had a great seafood appetizer. Service was friendly and excellent. Creame brûlée was very good and included a Cloudberry to make it a special treat.

Recommended for two reasons. First there are not many restaurants to chose from, and second, the service was very good. Selection of food was good enough, where fish is dominant on the menu, as it should be in this area. The whale beef was small but tasty. The food was disappointing cold when served, and there could be more on... More

The restaurant was recommended to us as popular with locals. But after we had walked in and sat down we were informed that the kitchen had closed at 7pm (this was a Sunday). There was only one other place open in the whole of Andenes - the Da Vinci which, although empty, turned out to serve good, authentic Italian food... More

Very cosy place with friendly staff. The food was excellent so we went for diner one night & lunch the next day. All we had was delicious: fried cod tongues, halibut & pollock for diner, salads and the best fish soup I ever had, for lunch. The house wine is great & there is also a big variety of beers... More

Fire burning, friendly professional staff, great food, prepared by a local cook with passion! Just what you need after spending the daylight hours in the arctic.

We ate at this restaurant 3 times (1x lunch and 2x diner) this past weekend (Jan 31, 2015). This is a small restaurant (25-30 seats) serving local food (fish!) as well as some standard fare such as a burger (they serve meat as well but as I don't eat meat I skipped this part of the menu). The menu changes... More

I don't eat meat, but the chef was more than willing to make me a delicious omelet. Molten chocolate cake afterwards was a real treat.
