Description: Roly and Helen Harries took over this traditional village pub in Puddletown, near Dorchester in May 2013. Keeping the very best of the old, they set about combining its warm, friendly country ambience with a cool, airy modern interior - part of a style that is reflected in their approach to the food and hospitality. Something for which this bar and restaurant is rapidly gaining a first-class reputation. The food is home cooked, and where possible the ingredients are seasonal and sourced locally from friends or trusted specialist suppliers. The wines have been chosen to complement the menu, and there is always a range of excellent guest ales on tap.Together with Head Chef Anthoney Riley and his team, they've created a menu that reflects their personal tastes, with a truly international approach - a style that owes as much to the hot islands of the Mediterranean as it does to the classic and everyday dishes of Britain and mainland Europe. Roly and Helen with Children Thomas and Benjamin are passionate about producing the very best food at accessible prices, as well as extending a warm and friendly welcome to locals and visitors alike.

We had a good meal with our 7 and 9 year old boys. Although there wasn't a child's menu they were happy to prepare something for them or do smaller adult meals. We ate early for the boys but it was soon packed so i would advise booking ahead. The staff were friendly and the food was good. Plenty of... More

Off the beaten track but really worth the effort. Eaten here before, the food and service is always very good with a great selection of beers and wines. All the food coming out of the kitchen looks well presented. The restaurant is always well patronised by locals so reservations are recommended to prevent a long wait or disappointment.

Puddletown is such a lovely village and although the pub was fully booked, they made a space for us and the meal was superb. i had a fresh crab salad and as I can't eat gluten, I had their amazing chips. My partner had fresh mussels and crusty bread and thoroughly enjoyed it. I let him eat one chip! The... More

We have used the Blue Vinny as a place for a few drinks for quite a while as we live near by but had never eaten there. Went there on my birthday for dinner and we both had one of the best steaks we have ever had! We don't eat a lot of meat so this was a real treat... More

The food at The Blue Vinny is great but the service is lacking. I would recommend the Lamb Burger, steak, and Sticky Toffee Pudding. We enjoyed the food but the whole experience was tainted by the service (lack of it).

We went for lunch on the recommendation of friends. We were surprised to be asked to hand over a credit card 'for security reasons' which we declined. I thought that this practice was generally declining but it's one thing to be asked to do this in a busy city pub but quite another in a quiet rural pub. Our meals... More

I am sorry your visit was not what you had hoped for. We do not take a card if you are on one of our tables in side so you must have been in the garden eating. It is policy that all people eating in the garden can keep a tab open with a card secured in the bar OR... More

I had lunch here today and was very pleased that I had chosen to do so. I knew nothing of the pub and had just decided to go as it was a half way meeting point to meet friends. I had Mediterranean Chicken with fennel and Peanut slaw, whilst my friend had mussels. Both dishes were very good and the... More

We were almost put off by some of the negative reviews on TA but decided to give it a try as we wanted a pub garden for our boys (5 and 2.5) to play in while we enjoyed a decent meal and drink as its often a compromise. What we found was the perfect gastro pub with excellent food, bitter... More

Thank you for your very nice review. We are glad you gave us a try and that your children had a good time with us. I hope your child feels better and enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding to take away. Thanks again from all at "The Blue Vinny" More
