Description: Roly and Helen Harries took over this traditional village pub in Puddletown, near Dorchester in May 2013. Keeping the very best of the old, they set about combining its warm, friendly country ambience with a cool, airy modern interior - part of a style that is reflected in their approach to the food and hospitality. Something for which this bar and restaurant is rapidly gaining a first-class reputation. The food is home cooked, and where possible the ingredients are seasonal and sourced locally from friends or trusted specialist suppliers. The wines have been chosen to complement the menu, and there is always a range of excellent guest ales on tap.Together with Head Chef Anthoney Riley and his team, they've created a menu that reflects their personal tastes, with a truly international approach - a style that owes as much to the hot islands of the Mediterranean as it does to the classic and everyday dishes of Britain and mainland Europe. Roly and Helen with Children Thomas and Benjamin are passionate about producing the very best food at accessible prices, as well as extending a warm and friendly welcome to locals and visitors alike.

Eight of us were away for a weekend holiday and the booking was made on the phone. Fantastic choice on the menu. The moules were a great success as a starter; the salmon marinaded in Johnny Walker was very tasty, and everyone else were happy with their starters. The main courses were equally appetising - sorry can't remember what everyone... More

Booked for 3 adults and 2 children for Sunday lunch. Staff were friendly although I really object to being called "you guys". Why do they all do this? I was really looking forward to my starter of roasted beetroot with goats cheese mousse served on a crisp salad of carrot and beetroot, with orange marmalade. What arrived was 2 slabs... More

I haven't been out to the Vinny since before January and things seemed to have changed.. The specials board which was always a real treat to look at for me and my wife now seems to have become very americanised with deli style sandwiches, surf and turf and chicken wings.. Due to the expensive prices of these dishes I would... More

I booked ahead for 8 and everything was ready and waiting for us. The food was excellent and there was a really good choice. We also had a young child with us and they catered for him brilliantly and made up a simple meal of pasta and pesto just for him. Overall, everyone had a really good time and I... More

I have tried several times to get into The Blue Vinny and finally had to book. It was well worth the wait! The food was superb and there is a nice friendly atmosphere. We were a group of six and all rated our meal as excellent. Not to be missed.

I visit the great village pub every year when I visit the UK. The menu is varied with a range of vegetarian options. It also has a selection of local real ales. When the weather is good there is a large garden to sit in and soak up the rays. Dogs are no longer allowed in the bar. Disabled access... More

If you ask me to rate this village pub on the food alone I would definitely have given it a resounding good to excellent. However, ask me to score the venue on customer service and 'poor' would be generous. Having booked a table for 9 women for a friends birthday we sat at the table and waited to be passed... More

Thank you for your review. I am pleased that you all enjoyed your meal but am dissapointed that you did not get the service you needed. We try to greet all our table guests as they arrive and show them to there seats and then give them there menus so I have asked our manager why this did not happen.... More

We booked an early dinner having heard some good things about this venue. We were not disappointed, we choose the parfait and goat cheese tart to start, followed by the lamb burger and sea bass all lived up to their billing, fair priced Hungarian Rose good choice. As placed filled up great atmosphere. Staff friendly and attentive without being pushy.... More

Thankyou for your review. I am glad you enjoyed the food and its great to hear the balance with table service was right for you. Its one of the hardest things to sort out as some like lots of attention and some like to be left to enjoy the meal. I will relay your comments to Garth our manager. thank... More
