Don't spend too much time talking, just admire the food!

Baslow is in the Peak District, less than three miles from Chatsworth House and four miles from Bakewell, so it's a great place to spend a bit of time. Fischer's restaurant is in an Edwardian mansion house, which also has eleven bedrooms. The ambience is very warm, although the decor is a bit... read more

Went to Fischers Baslow Hall for a weekend break and fine dining for my wife's birthday at the end of January. I would describe it as a restaurant with rooms rather than hotel with a restaurant - but this is certainly NOT a negative comment - it's just a simple statement of fact. We arrived early (12:30), and as requested,... More

A dinner, bed and breakfast treat at Fischers proved memorable. Baslow Hall felt very traditional, although the staff who served us were young. Whilst enjoying an aperitif and tasty canapes by the open fire, we chose the Taste of Britain menu with wine pairings. We were shown into a smart dining area where the ten course meal was served. Every... More

I had been here previously for a romantic dinner but this was 'ladies who lunch' taking advantage of the £20.16 two course mid-week lunch - amazing food and amazing value. We added a few extras (glasses of wine, extra courses and coffee) and still got away with £35 a head which for the quality of food and level of service... More

Fischer's is without doubt a special place. Baslow hall is a beautiful venue and you're transported back in time when you walk inside. It's cosy yet prestigious with paintings adorning the walls and timeless furniture dotted around the drawing room with an open log fire roaring away in the corner. We had an aperitif before moving into a dining room... More

Visited this marvelous establishment early January. We were staying here also but this is a quick restaurant review only. The whole dining experience at Fischer's is a pleasure. The bar area for pre-dinner drinks was cosy and comfortable, and this was mirrored by the dining room. I notice some reviews on here complaining about the lack of music/quiet atmosphere. Personally,... More

Family Sunday Lunch, eleven of us and just excellent from start to finish. Had our own room (prebooked) but from arrival to departure this was just excellent. Fizz on arrival and nibbles all very unhurried and the service was always delivered in our time, they knew we were there but we didn't know they were there. The menu will, of... More

We have been to Fischer's previously and again we weren't disappointed. The place just has that lovely warm feeling about it, especially this time of year. The food is both cooked, and presented beautifully. It would be hard to fault anything about a 'Fischer's experience'. Service is excellent and discreet, food perfect, tables nicely spaced allowing a more intimate dining... More

Where to start? This was on our list of michelin star restaurants to try, what a huge disappointment. The building is beautiful from the outside but on entering the restaurant we were visibly shocked. It was like walking into a cafe, surely this wasn't the place we were eating? Tartan carpet, flower wallpaper, modern chairs that belong in a cafe.... More

Everything and everybody from arrival to departure is just so professional and delightful. We stayed overnight on New Years Day and had the Taste of Britain Menu for Dinner. The diversity of the 10 dishes is fascinating, all executed to perfection. We liked some more than others, but in all a very balanced exercise and a very very enjoyable culinary... More
