Birthday dinner

we went here for a birthday dinner... the food atmosphere and service were good. The waitress asked questions and after the meal brought out a surprise birthday cakey thing with a lit candle unsolicited... discretely....not noisily which was rather a nice touch. pleasant evening

Stopped on the way to Chch for a quick eggs bene and was thrilled to see the high standard remains after a change of ownership. Eggs were exceptional, bacon cooked to perfection, toast crisp, eggs runny and gooey. If I was being pedantic I would say the hollandaise could've done with a touch more lemon juice as it was slightly... More

Can't wait to come back! Took my 84 year old Mum (who is a bit of a foodie!) to Norwester for Mother's Day lunch and we were so impressed with the quality, flavours, presentation and taste of our meals plus the service was very special. The maître d was friendly, efficient and fun. Our waitress was also all of that... More

Stopped here on the way from Kaikoura to ChCh, and the coffee and cake we had was very nice at a good price too. We'd recommend the chocolate caramel slice! The presentation of the sandwiches and cakes on the counter looked very appetising so I'm sure anything is good! For cat lovers, there is also a gorgeous ginger cat walking... More

Travelling from Picton to Christchurch. Have stopped at the Nor'Wester Cafe many times before so felt confident the meal would be great. We both ordered chicken. The presentation was very plain bearing little resemblance to the menu description. The sliced potatoes were only just cooked and the chicken was red near the bone. We both left much of the chicken... More

We've dined at Nor'wester previously and enjoyed the food and service, however it it now under new management. In May my partner and I made reservations, when we entered the waitress stayed behind the counter and pointed in the general direction of some table and mumbled something that neither of us could understand, so we just helped ourselves to a... A small group of us went for dinner. Very good selection of wine and beer at good prices too. The food was wonderful, I really enjoyed the mussel and clam starter. There are no spirits on offer which was unusual for fine dining and they no longer accept the entertainment card which we did not know about.

Only stopped for a quick coffee on the way home to Nelson. We were served quickly even though they were busy. The 2 flat whites came to us luke warm and with about 2 to 3 cm of froth on top. So basically only half a cup of luke warm coffee left in the cup once the froth was scooped... More

As so many have said in previous reviews - dull and uninspiring. The old outstanding menu has been replaced, as has the decor, and not for the better. Garlic bread consisted of 4 thin slices accompanied by a near frozen butter. Sirloin steak was as plain as they come, accompanied by a meagre salad and fries not seen since Cobb... More
