Visited this restaurant 16th September partly because my friend had the entertainment book with a voucher for Nor'Wester Cafe and also because we knew it was under new management so wondered how it stacked up now. As we walked through the door we were surprised to see a notice advising us that they were no longer honouring the voucher system... More

I guess our visit started with the disappointment that this restaurant no longer honours the Entertainment Book Gold Card. We learnt this from a note posted on the door(as of September 13) Reason was change of ownership. I have used the book since it's inception and have never had this experience before. When I mentioned it politely to the lady... More

We stopped at about 2pm on Father's Day. Our lunch was served promptly and was perfectly cooked. My coffee was exactly right. Only downside was that everyone seemed to disappear when we were thinking about dessert. Considering how busy they were, it was still worth stopping there.

Rib Eye! $32. Maybe 1cm thick and overcooked of course because it would be ready in a flash. A small slice of leek and potato gratin from the baking tray and what I call a nasty, stingy little salad with one crinkly lettuce leaf (unwashed) a 1/6th slice of a tomato and a sprinkle of shallot with a drop of... We stopped for lunch after a few days at Hanmer. The food was great and it was good to be able to order sparkling wine by the glass. We will definitely return.

Having recently moved to the area, I was excited to see this tiny town is branching out with a fabulous looking wine bar! We met some friends who were passing through on their way to Christchurch and thought we would give the Nor'Wester a 'go'... We picked a fabulous sunny Sunday at about 12:30 in the afternoon so when we... More

Travelling back from Hanmer this was a lovely place to stop for lunch. The meal was lovely and the service was fine. We sat outside in a nice courtyard setting thankfully as the inside smelt like 'sticky child'.

We savored dinner here twice, and loved the salmon entree with pasta, spinach, sun-dried tomatoes and mascarpone so much we both had it twice. The wine list is good with strong local influence. Wines by the glass are excellent, a little pricey but the pour is generous. Service was excellent the first night and adequate the second. The entree was... More

we drive through this town a few times a year and every time - be it lunch, brunch or breakfast it is very good. The food and menu are always interesting and well prepared and presented. The staff on the whole are great. The cake cabinet (never tried) looks to die for. Great coffee and always recommend a stop here.

We have been several times previously and enjoyed each time we had visited. However, my wife and I went again for a mid morning breakfast after reading, new owners and a Michelin chef in the kitchen. The meals were not as previously experienced, ( good sized and you left feeling satisfied ), instead they were at best, entrée size. My... More
