New owners and some new staff warranted a try as "the old NW" had been so very good. The only reason I give it three stars is that the staff were very efficient and friendly. The new menu sounded promising but the dishes were quite ordinary. It was as if the chef knew everything about food but little about taste.... More

Have visited the Norwester a few times over the past few years and always had beautiful food and great service, I believe there are new owners and the menus have changed, nothing on the starter menu for vegetarians, all seafood and one venison, the prawn ravioli starter quite bland and I ordered risotto with scallops for main meal, my vegetarian... it has had lots of accolades over the years .we have dined there on a number of occasions during that time .today we were disappointed . overpriced lunch menu , overpriced drinks and food that promised much but did not deliver .the ownership has changed and publicity has been hyped up . the reality does not match the hype .... Having written this review, I've visited the website and it would appear this establishment has changed owners since my visit. This was most of a visit by convenience then planned. We were driving back from Kaikoura to Christchurch and it was getting late and we were both starving. Most of the villages we had driven through didn't seem to have... More

As the Child Bride was away with the girls we men decided to have dinner on the last ver night trading at the Norwester. Notwithstanding the last night it was outstanding as ever, packed to the rafters and happy. The food and wine were as always excellent as was the skilled and attentive service. Goodbe Norwester, all the best Trish

Will NEVER return to what was once a favourite oasis for years. Rude and utterly unhelpful service. One of the worst dining experiences ever

Love this cafe - always stop here when heading up the coast. The food is always really great and staff friendly. If you don't have time to stop they do simply awesome sandwiches to take away with really fresh good ingredients.

I can't help wondering what has happened to this café. We've been visiting for years, but the last couple of times I've had a distinct feeling that things aren't the same. There's not quite the same friendly welcome, and there haven't been as many customers as there have been in the past. Today, the service was very slack. After arriving... More

Would never go back, waited for 30mins for one takeaway coffee after being told there was a small delay of "ten minutes" on coffees. Ridiculous. And to top it off the coffee was awful!

We don’t eat out much when I’m in New Zealand. Apart from anything else, there’s nowhere of my er … taste to go, and as Wendy rightly says, her food and cooking is better than most (all?) the local restos. So … after a hard day’s work its easier to stay home. But the other night … well, it was... More
