Definite Improvement...

We first ate here some four or five years ago when friends treated us to dinner. It was little short of a disaster that I won't dwell on because it's not completely relevant to this review other than to say that we weren't particularly looking forward to this evening given our experience. It... read more

So disappointed . Thought the decor was so dated. With so much competition these days I expected the meal to be way better than it was. A few had the over priced fillet steak which was so small , whilst I couldn't eat the pasta and returned it. I never write reviews but this was a birthday treat which should... More

Beautiful setting. Great atmosphere and wonderful food and service. Very quaint and upmarket surroundings in this beautiful part of Hitchin. Can't add to that but visit for yourself.

There is something special about this little cute hotel and restaurant, hidden in the countryside. It is like going back home for mums cooking and rest and relaxation. Nothing is outstanding or special, It all just feels comfortable and the way it has always been. The food is lovely. Fresh, tasty, good portions. The service is happy and relaxed. The... More

Don't ask for bread if you order a burger . The bread looked Soo nice so we took some and regretted that when our burger came, it was huge. Lovely service and a great place for lunch and it needs the business because it was empty apart from us ....shame they deserve better.

We had a lovely evening celebrating Christmas and a birthday. The staff at Redcoats were wonderful, from the person I spoke to to organise the party to the bar staff, to the girls who brought our food and drink and everyone in between. I have seldom experienced such friendly and helpful staff as these - especially at this time of... More

I attended my sisters 60th birthday lunch on Sunday 15th Nov 2015. Apart from having a wonderful meal, the whole experience was lovely. The staff were friendly, professional and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff are a credit. I would like to make a special mention of Emma though, she was an absolute star. Steve W.

Last time we went to the Redcoats was over 15 years ago when I recall it being a very pleasurable experience. The decor has certainly not changed much but found the food disappointingly average for the cost. It is an independent so thumbs up to that and the staff were very friendly, but I would not return. The issue is... More

Dear Steve, Thanks you for your comments. I'm very sorry to hear you did not enjoy your recent visit. Our aim is to produce food of a much higher quality than the competition and, with the exception of your review, all our recent feedback has been extremely positive. I am of course very disappointed that we did not impress you... More

We had an excellent afternoon tea with a good variety and generous serving of freshly made sandwiches, cakes and scones with jam and cream. There was unlimited tea and coffee all served at a very pleasant table in the Conservatory. The waiting staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive .....we shall definitely return for another!

If you like a traditional English dining experience, then this is definitely a place to visit I tend to visit for special occasions because (in my opinion) too often stops it being special. My first visit is where I decided to pop-the-question to my other half some 24 years ago. I set the scene with the hotel manager and left... More
