What a great historic pub

It is a Free Pub that has been in existence for over 300 years. We ate here during the week and it became very busy so we are very glad we made reservations. The service here is very, very good. Nice menu variety, and the food was served hot with nice presentation. Nice variety of beers and ales... read more

My husband and I booked a meal at this restaurant that we know from friends has a very good reputation and we have eaten there ourselves some time ago and really enjoyed it. On this night unfortunately they had a large party in and the very nice staff came and explained that we would have to wait due to the... More

Ate here on evening of 17th December with my parents. As always, it delivers great value food in a pleasant atmosphere. Good range of ales and drinks, nice natural service, lovely food and fabulous hand-made desserts. What is not to love?

This is a lovely little pub, with great service and a good varied menu. It has a lovely outside area for sitting in the summer and a really good ambience. It has a really good selection of wines although very overpriced, they charge restaurant prices, which makes for an expensive round, most decent restaurants and bars manage reasonably priced good... Met a friend here and we had an excellent evening in the first week in December. Pub was very busy but managed to find us a table for two when I rang around 5 pm. Good selection of wines by the glass; fruity tagine which was really delicious and tried two puddings to share between us. Well priced and good... More

The atmosphere here is always good and the staff are attentive. Also good Beers. However the food we had recently was not good. We had the Turkey dinner. The Turkey was dry, No roast potatoes, The boiled potatoes were mushy and the veg had been overcooked until soggy. Except the Brussel sprouts which were almost raw. The food comes all... More

Having read rave reviews we decided to give it a try. The main courses we had , both specials were anything but. We would personally not go again to eat. It did have a nice atmosphere so may go for a drink.

A pub of contrasts. No table cloth, but full sized cotton napkins, nearly scrubbed tables, assorted chairs. Camra beers, a proper wine list. Service when you ask for it. Imaginative menu and "today's" specials. All six of us thought out starters and main courses were full of flavour. Nothing spoilt. Treacle tart all round to finish!

There were 5 in our party, nothing to stress anyone over, but one was vegetarian and another vegan. The vegan in our party called ahead and discussed possible meals with the owner who agreed to prepare a special risotto which was lovely. All the other meals were very nice too. The pub, and it is a pub, not a restaurant,... More

Have eaten here a few times as we are local and it is dog-friendly. They are happy for you to share a plate if you are not very hungry, we often do this so we can have starter, main and dessert (all shared and a bit easier on the wallet and waistline). They do a Sunday roast for less than... More
