Good quality food in pleasant surroundings with attentive staff. Not a large menu but interesting dishes - not bog standard pub grub.

I have been here a couple of times and have thoroughly enjoyed the food, the personal service and the general ambiance & vibe especially during their festivals or music evenings. My partner recommends the duck!

Good food, from a decent menu and daily specials. The fish curry was good, and the steak and ale pie was nice too. Reasonably priced with good portions and service. Local ales, well kept.

Lovely little English-Scottish-French pub restaurant. Very relaxing atmosphere and a quite location outside the town centre. Excellent food, ranging from pub food to french cuisine. Real local ales and good selection of beers and wines. Prices very good. Like to go there for no special occasions.

Great family lunch again in this pleasant, friendly pub. Very relaxing atmosphere and delicious food. Steak and ale pie was lovely as was the sausage and chips. 3 sausages of excellent quality. Very accommodating (we telephoned to say we were going to be for our reserved table and they kindly kept the kitchen open for us). Friendly staff and reasonable... More

Had Mother's Day lunch with the family. Great starter of dressed crab then Tartiflette for us grow ups and scampi and chips for kids. Real ales were great and good wine selection. Puddings were fab. Nice atmosphere and service. Will definitely go back.

This is the second time visiting the Highlander and no disappointment here. Their website is not always up to date so I recommend a call. Excellent real ales and a traditional Hertfordshire pub with roaring fire on a cold spring evening. The barman is delightful and welcoming and knowledgable of both food and the beer and wine. The four of... More

I have been a customer of the Highlander for over 15 years - when it was a 300 year old pub (and a Free House ) offering a small range of good quality pub meals (example - sausage and chips) to the present time when it retains the bar and furnishings of that era but is now very upmarket in... More

Had lunch here - friendly service, local beer and food not bad at all. But why oh why do people not use decent bread for their sandwiches? Such a small thing but a nice steak sandwich and chips isn't the same with pre cut sliced bread (Hovis style), such a simple thing but makes such a difference! On a positive... More
