The Highlander is a cosy rustic pub in Hitchin with an Anglo/French food menu. I highly recommend a visit. My experience – dining with family & dog – was of friendly, accommodating staff, tasty food and a couple of Tring ales to enjoy. The tartiflette was particularly good and we all loved our desserts (including a top notch brownie and... More

Been for a Sunday roast twice now and both times the food arrived quickly, was hot and very very good! Service is always friendly and efficient. They also do the best triple chocolate brownies! A lovely warm friendly pub which I would highly recommend. Make sure you book in advance as it's very popular.

Dined with my husband and aunt, who lives in Hitchin at The Highlander for the third time. Top food of ham, egg and chips and a fantastic quiche and salad for me. Great service and they even said to my aunt that as she didnt eat much she should have asked for a chllds portion, they were happy to oblige.... More

Moved to write a review as the pub seems to be undervalued by locals (on TripAdvisor at least). We visit the Highlander every month or so when we want a good value, well prepared and honest meal. The menu is small enough so you know the food is not mass produced and bought in but big enough to offer ample... More

Good quality food in pleasant surroundings with attentive staff. Not a large menu but interesting dishes - not bog standard pub grub.

I have been here a couple of times and have thoroughly enjoyed the food, the personal service and the general ambiance & vibe especially during their festivals or music evenings. My partner recommends the duck!

Good food, from a decent menu and daily specials. The fish curry was good, and the steak and ale pie was nice too. Reasonably priced with good portions and service. Local ales, well kept.

Lovely little English-Scottish-French pub restaurant. Very relaxing atmosphere and a quite location outside the town centre. Excellent food, ranging from pub food to french cuisine. Real local ales and good selection of beers and wines. Prices very good. Like to go there for no special occasions.

Great family lunch again in this pleasant, friendly pub. Very relaxing atmosphere and delicious food. Steak and ale pie was lovely as was the sausage and chips. 3 sausages of excellent quality. Very accommodating (we telephoned to say we were going to be for our reserved table and they kindly kept the kitchen open for us). Friendly staff and reasonable... More
