We ate here on two evenings whilst staying in Rhyader and enjoyed our meals on both occasions. The choice of food was good with vegetarian option if that's your thing, all cooked and presented well, prices are very reasonable too. When we visited it wasn't too busy but I would imagine in the height of summer it would be quite... More

We ate here on Easter Sunday so really busy but the landlord took the time to search out a table for us. The food was well cooked and good value.

The pub is old and quaint. We used it as our new local as it was so atmostpheric. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The cake on the bar was delicious. The local customers are friendly and not loud at all.

My partner and I stopped in here on our way to a couple of days away and were looking for a nice lunch. The signs outside said good home cooked food. There are quite a few places in Rhayader that serve food and we don't have much experience of any of them so we thought 'home-made' sounds good to me.... More

Called in here on the second night of a two day cycling trip in Rhayader. After walking through the village, we decided to eat here due to the choices available on the menu. The alarm bells started to ring when we discovered we were the first in to eat on a Saturday night, most of the other eateries in town... More

My husband and I were in the area house-hunting for three days, I'd read some reviews of The Castle and liked the idea of the much vaunted 'Spanish' influence so we went there for an evening meal. We chose the tapas and both appreciated the note on the menu warning us that it would be some time as it was... More

We had a meal at this restaurant today, as we were driving home from North Wales, and the food was very nice, I had a beef lasagne with salad and some chips which was very good and my husband had spaghetti with spinach and blue cheese which he thought was very nice as well. Plus the service was good.

Although it looks your trad friendly mid-Wales pub, the food isn't. What, no Sunday lunch menu? You can get that everywhere (incl next door). Instead here they have a very clever range. The tapas is excellent & well priced at £3-£5 a go, and very good it is too. My partner had meatballs, ham & chorizo croquettes and marinaded aubergine... More

Four of us chanced upon The Castle while looking for lunch in Rhayader one Tuesday in May 2012. The interior of the pub is pleasantly traditional with beams and horse brasses; the barman was friendly and welcoming; there was a good choice of real ales; the service was efficient and quick. Our food was nicely presented and comprised one chicken... More

Ordered two plates of fish in batter with chips and peas, the service was quite qiuck, but when it came the covering on the fish was disgusting, it wasn't edible. It was supposed to have been batter but we never found out what it was, there was no appologies at all from the bar man or any sign of a... More
