Nice setting, passable food ... but expensive

We've been meaning to try the Abbey for some time since it was refurbished and re-opened a few years back but somehow never made it. The menu was very expensive especially as you needed to buy a side order to go with it and therefore not value for money. My Christmas pudding had more nuts in than the nut roast and no Brandy in the brandy sauce and a small portion again. First time I've gone home hungry but had to pay 30.00 + with... More

I have had one reasonable lunch at The Abbey but an appalling and expensive dinner which was a birthday treat for my daughter. The Coconut Tempura shrimp was tasted of nothing and was not a Tempura batter. The main courses were mediocre and so was the pudding...I could have produced better food myself at home. The bill was huge in... More

We recently had dinner here my first visit, my companion had been before, first impressions were very good, beautiful spot, the restaurant situated in a small manor house, the layout of the restaurant was as you might expect for this standard without being too pretentious. Excellent menu for choice though lacked choice for vegetarians, did not effect us, thought the... More

We have been regulars at the Abbey since it opened. Our last visit was very disappointing. They were understaffed and tables were left with dirty dishes on them. Our side order did not arrive until we have virtually finished our main course. One main course of venison was so small it could have been a starter but not with a... More

The new menu will not fail to impress. It really is the only place in the south of the island to visit for that special meal. Service to equal the food as well!!

We came here for our evening meal, we have been here before and had a bad experience but decided to give it another go. The restaurant itself was was very pretty, and the staff were polite and attentive. However the food just didn't seem to have as much wow factor as the menue promised, it was very one dimensional and... More

There were 8 of us here for Dinner, 4 adults and 4 Children. The Restaurant has a Gastro feel to it, great decor but without the pretentious side which a lot of these establishments have. Drinks were swiftly ordered and our order taken. I had Froie Gras, others had the crab and scallops. Lovely presentation and delicious. The kids had... More

A couple of years have passed since our last visit and a shockingly poor ,over cooked , ridiculously costly lobster. Indeed we were so unimpressed that we would never have visited again had we not been given a gift voucher as a present. So with some trepidation we returned. The food this time was very good indeed , starters and... More

My wife and I have a Sunday lunch which was very underwhelming for the price. The foreign waiting staff were rude, surly and unhelpful. Avoid!
