All round praise for the venue, service and food. We were a party of 20 - the room was very good (size, layout, décor) and the management of pre-dinner drinks, taking the orders and then getting the food out was exemplary. The choice of dishes (4 per course for the party) was balanced and tempting. The service was prompt, helpful... More

I was told this was the place for Sunday lunch. I was disappointed. There was only red meat (no chicken). The starter soup was watery. The roast beef was 2 slices and overcooked. You also got 3 potatoes and veg in a bowl that looked from a can. We didn't have a dessert. Summary - expensive, poor quality. Incidentally my... More

We've just had a marvellous meal thoroughly recommend, Ham Hock Starter, the sea bass and the Chocolate and Caramel dessert just wonderful. The manageress was excellent as were her staff. Highly recommended!

You will get a decent steak here but the overall experience is not good. The service if you can call it that is poor, inattentive and actually quite rude - I do not expect an upturned lip and sneer and a comment "is that all - just a half" when ordering an £18 half bottle of Rioja. Touches such as... More

standards have definitely dropped, steak was good, service terrible, special pudding unbelievably bad, place was cold and poorly lit, everything overpriced, account was paid with a gift voucher we were given and they refused to refund the difference, there was no senior manager on duty even though it was Saturday night, wont be returning.

I have taken visiting family here in the past as a treat and always thought although expensive it was worth the money. My last visit changed my opinion. the service was ok, we had to ask for drinks, the food was a bit slow. When the food came it was nice but I've definately had better. The setting is nice

I have given this place two attempts and both times been disappointed. The waiters seem to have a very poor grasp of English and on both occasions made errors with our order. As for the food, it is O.K., but not exceptional Nice restaurant but trying to be something it is not, an upper class Forge that fails to be... More

We've been meaning to try the Abbey for some time since it was refurbished and re-opened a few years back but somehow never made it. New Year visitors created an opportunity so, as two couples, we headed off for a leisurely lunch. Unsurprisingly for the time of year, the restaurant was not busy and we were quickly shown to a... The menu was very expensive especially as you needed to buy a side order to go with it and therefore not value for money. My Christmas pudding had more nuts in than the nut roast and no Brandy in the brandy sauce and a small portion again. First time I've gone home hungry but had to pay 30.00 + with... More
