We were in the middle of a day touring the lovely villages of the Dordogne when we stopped in the "cutest village in France". Not looking for the fine dining at La Belle Etoile but just hungry for lunch we picked out this place for the view over the river from the upper terrace. Nothing fancy, but our waitress was... More

We sat on their outdoor patio by the boat launch for River tours. We did not have food. The waitress was very pleasant and friendly, very attentive. Great place for a reasonably priced, good wine (Bergerac, house wine). Nice views of the river and village.

La Roque Gageac has relatively few options for eating, but Le Palmier is a pleasant and restively inexpensive option. The bar/cafe has tables on the street, which are an attractive option for a drink in the evening sun, once the day-tripping crowd has dispersed. To eat, I'd recommend getting a table on the first floor terrace which opens out on... More

Also wonderful views and lovely service. Children, both very fussy eaters, made a number of changes to their pizzas which were really accommodated. Nutella pancakes were of course scoffed down quick

Disgusting food. Frozen pizzas heated up in the microwave for the kids, uneatable pizza for us grown ups, surely prebaked and cheap cheddar cheese instead of mozarella, "dolmio" tomoato sauce on.... the whole family was filling bad all night......and not cheap either. Avoid!!! Sad as the village is so beautiful and the view great.

When we travel we seek out restaurants serving local cuisine. Le Palmier was a pleasant surprise in that it offered French specialties at reasonable prices. We tried it for dinner and were especially pleased with the grilled duck breast, and chicken salad, which admittedly is not a classic of French cuisine, but good in taste as well as portion. We... Called here at lunchtime & shared a pizza which was fine. Had gone to Domme later in our holiday for dinner only to find the restaurant we wanted was closed that night so decided to call here for dinner - big mistake! Didn't really expect anything fancy but the omelette I decided on was swimming in it's own egg juice... More

We had a meal there last night and although the service was fast and the waiter spoke good English, we found the pizza didn't live up to our expectations. Too much salty cheese made it almost inedible - nice thin crust was about the only thing going for it!

It must be doing something right as we've eaten there twice this holiday. First night we sat up on the balcony terrace and second time over the road by the river. Food was great, my 4 year old loved his spaghetti carbonara, I had the most fabulous Roqufort burger and husband enjoyed the omelette and pizza he had. It was... More
