Good food and service

Great Yorkshire welcome. Lovely location and atmosphere. Stopped here for lunch on Thursday on our way to Malton. Wife had a steak and onion sandwich while I went for the crab and salmon. Both were excellent. Well prepared and presented.

After a pleasant excursion in the Yorkshire countryside we asked Tripadvisor for a place to eat. The Stone Trough was top of the list and we were not disappointed. Everything was hot, tender and really tasty. Our experience was really good and I recommend the Steak Pie it was truly delicious

I frankly don't know where to start with this one. My wife and I decided to go here for a meal on our way home from the coast. All looked great as we pulled up, just our type of place we thought. Little out of the way place with real fires and ales etc. So to make things easier we... More

Near the abbey and very pretty setting, we stay in our caravan not far away and it was a lovely find. Bar meals and restaurant equally as pleasing although service a little slow. Bar staff always friendly and have a bit of banter with you. We stayed late one evening and enjoyed live entrainment which was excellent . Lovely place... More

We have visited a number of times before and when we had the offer of a babysitter jumped at the chance of going back. When we arrived, around 8pm on a Saturday night, we could see the restaurant was empty so decided to eat in the bar. We ordered our food and had a drink whilst we waited. The atmosphere... More

We have been regulars over the years though we don't live locally have always felt it was worth the journey. The setting remains great.but the surley unsmiling lady behind the bar did not make for a warm welcome. Where in the past the atmosphere was always buzzing with a mixture of locals walkers and visitors and the service was previously... More

This is one of the best Sunday lunches around. Two open fires with friendly staff. The food is very tasty and cooked well. This is well worth a visit.

What can I say? I feet slightly disappointed with our lunchtime visit today. The place looks the same, with it's splendid aspect and views across the Derwent valley, but something about it seemed a bit lacklustre today. We have a regular "pilgrimage" to the Stone Trough each time we are visiting our hometown of York, have brought groups of friends... More

I can't really put my finger on any one fact but I always leave The Stone Trough feeling slightly disappointed. The pub is in a lovely setting, is a fine building and the food is generally OK. Somehow, the place seems to lack a decent atmosphere, maybe it's the fairly dark interior, maybe it's the slightly maze like collection of... More

We visited the Stone Trough the day after Boxing Day 2014. I ordered the Sykes Farm steak pie. I can only state that this was the worse pie I have ever been unfortunate enough to have to try to eat.The pastry was like cardboard and the meat was tough and tasteless. I then had to wait 5 mins before the... More
