We recently had lunch at River as a group. We walked in without a booking and as we were a rather large group (5 adults and 6 children) we were initially turned away. However there were outdoor tables available which we preferred as the children were able to play outside. We were warned meals would be a wait and they... More

We were visiting the area from Auckland and went with a voucher offer on Saturday evening. We were impressed with the restaurant as we entered, with the hostess, then by the lovely Soup of the Day (Cauliflower & Blue Cheese), beautiful mains of Venison and local Angus Steak, both tender and lovely desserts of white chocolate cake with raspberries and... Although we have recently had lunch it had been some time since we had come for dinner and based on recent reviews were looking forward to our meal. It is currently mid winter and it is very dark at night. The car park was pitch black with no lights and also to the door of the restaurant was very dark.... More

We both had their stunning salmon dish. I'm not a big salmon fan but this dish was out of this world. Their mushroom soup and calamari entrees were fab and the lemon tart (we both had) was devine. And then their own wines! The Pinot '09 and the rose were great. We think the River is the best restaurant in... More

We enquired at the Turangi Information Centre for a nice Restaurant that evening and we were absolutely delighted with their recommendation. We were in a group of 4 and all had a different main course. The mains served were Venison, Pork Belly, Scotch Fillet with Parmesan Crust and a Risotto. All the Mains were served simultaneously, all were hot and... More

We were recommended this restaurant and winery by our hosts at a local resort. It is a little off the beaten track just north of Turangi but the certificates on the wall indicate it is also a big favourite with Trip Advisor reviewers. The hostess was very obliging and gave us a number of wine samples from the local vineyard.... More

We dined at two "top" restaurants in Turangi, this was one of them. The service was pleasant, and definitely knew all about the wines this vineyard produces. On recommendation, we had a bottle of Pinot Noir 2008 which was excellent...(we also bought a bottle to take home!). I had the pork belly (very nice) and my husband had the aged... More

I was part of a group of about 20 friends who visited to play petanque (unfortunately it was raining) and we had booked in for shared platters at $20 per person. The restaurant settling is nice, and the long table was nicely set. The platters were lean.I estimated the value to be about $5 per person. While we did not... More

A wonderful meal....truly! I was on a recent Fly Fishing trip (Mid March 2014) & a friend suggested we go (as it was my shout!). It was quiet on arrival, but a few more diners arrived after us. The meal was simply delicious, and the Pinot 2009 was delightful. A very full bodied Pinot which was a departure from other... More

The food was very nicely presented and the local Taupo beef was excellent. Best meal we've had during our travels in NZ the past three weeks
