Our first trip to Turangi was made very special as we followed our neighbour's advice to try this excellent winery/restaurant. We had a lovely dinner. They bent over backwards to accommodate me when I found the spring rolls a little spicy. I ended up with a free dessert - the pear dumpling which was divine. We returned the next morning... More

We didn't book but only three tables were taken when we got there at 7pm so we thought it would not be a problem. The staff member advised that they were fully booked so we asked if we could eat quickly before their other reservations arrived. No such luck she advised. How about if we have a quick pizza? Fine... We were a group of 5 and though the restaurant was very busy it was a great experience Excellent local food well prepared and attractively served. I had the liver pate ( perfect )then the venison and another friend had the green lip mussels and then salmon we were all delighted. The pinot noir 2009 was fabulous !!

A regular when I'm in Turangi. Great service, some lovely wines and the food is up with the best. I had the steak and Nick (my teenager) had the Calamari. A great meal. And I love the giant chess and checker board on the lawn. Great place for romantic dinner or a family meal.

Good food and wine, served quickly. It pays to book and go early. The pork belly and the roast lamb were particularly flavoursome and cooked to perfection. The portions were large, which meant we didn't have room for dessert. Outdoor setting is nice.

We had a terrible night at the river vines. The only positive was the wine specials with good wines at excellent prices. The staff were overwhelmed by a full restaurant and we waited so long for our order to be taken about 1.5 hours for an entree. During that time, some people left because of the inefficient service. The entree... More

Nice little place and had been recommended highly. No complaints about the wine which was delicious. We ordered spicey squid with Greek salad to share for a starter. We were advised it was in batter, but 4 very small.pieces came on a plate. It wasn't like batter, a bit soggy crumbs. Nothing amazing. My husband's lamb was good but my... More

The Skinny: Parking- gravel lot Decor- modern, simple Service- friendly Restroom- clean single Coke- in a can Food- average The restaurant wasn't too hard to find. I wrongly thought it was on the river though! Maybe the name threw me off. We had a reservation and when we got there we were the first people to dine. Two more tables... More

A rainy night in early November 2014 allowed us the opportunity to try the River Restaurant in an almost exclusive manner as only one other couple frequented the restaurant while we were there. A meal of Green Lipped Mussels, followed by entrees of Spring Rolls and Seafood Chowder and finally a main of Venison along with a bottle of Cab/Merlot... More

This small place off the beaten track was worth going to. Great atmosphere. Didn't know what to order so left it to the chef.( not something you could normally do). What came out was amazing, I gave them ideas of what I liked and they came out with a selection of small amounts for both entrees and mains. Ending with... More
