A surprising upmarket and popular restaurant

Fortunately we located it during daylight and booked in for the Saturday night. It was south or Turangi on the airport road. it had a nice buzz and the clientele was mature. The food and service was very good.

Came back here and had a fantastic calamari entre and venison main. The amount of food will surprise you and the quality was equivalent to the best in Wellington. We will be back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at River Restaurant. The food and wine was excellent and it was great to be able to enjoy some local foods. The setting is lovely - in a relaxed location where we could dine indoors or al fresco. Definitely worth a visit and a great spot for group dining as well.

The food was excellent and well presented. The wine was very tasty on the palate. Service was very friendly and efficient. Just like Tongariro Lodge down the road, you are quickly on first name terms. Prices are good for very high quality food and drink.

This was a real surprise. Delicious traditional evening dining, accompanied by tasty local wines. A very small operation of one waitress/manger and head chef with two young support staff, somehow effortlessly managed around 25 covers across the evening. The food felt like it was prepared with care and attention and the intimacy of the restaurant provide a setting for a... More

We were holidaying in Taupo and went for a long drive and came across this lovely little restaurant. It got good reviews on TripAdvisor so we decided to try it out. We had a wonderful night. I loved the white wine and my husband loved the red. We had salmon and steak and both were delicious. Even our teenage son... More

We found this little place tucked away from the main road between Motuapa and Turangi. Went for a family meal expecting to pay +++ as based on reviews it was going to be pricy but it was worth every cent. We were greeted well and with an extensive wine list which we thought at around $8 per glass was very... More

Excellent food with local wines to sample. Portions can be a bit small given the prices. The menu is interesting and the outlook nice with a large deck area.
