Description: Our food is freshly cooked by talented chefs using seasonal and local ingredients wherever possible. We cook our own breads, grow our own herbs, butcher our meat and fillet our own fish, most of which is straight from the boat.We take pride that our dishes sometimes take longer to cook than other establishments as they are cooked to order. The place is famly-run, relaxed, casual dining in a clean, bright environment. Hope you can visit soon.

I booked 22 delegates into the Orange Tree for an evening meal, through recommendation from the Manor of Groves Hotel; I am always nervous of new places but I need not of worried. Tom Perry and his team were awesome, hosting skills were great, food was exceptional and the atmosphere was conducive to us letting our hair down after an... More

Booked this morning for lunch for two. Polite and helpful member of staff took the booking. The restaurant was not overly busy, but the ambiance was very good. My guest had the ham, egg and chips from the starter/small mains section of the menu, whilst I ordered the pulled pork and apple pie (with mash, carrots, brocolli and gravy) from... More

We recently visited The Orange Tree for my birthday treat. We had friends staying with us and so we were a party of 4 adults and 1 child (aged 8). We have ALWAYS been made to feel very welcome at this gastro pub, on all the occasions we have visited, including with and without my child. Without exception, the food... More

Hi Vodkaangel22 (love the user name BTW). Thank you firstly for choosing The Orange Tree for your birthday treat which in itself makes us feel very proud. But thank you also for your glowing recommendation and critique on the food and welcome you received. You're right it does get extremely busy at times on Sunday and we've now recruited another... Long delay in posting this review due to personal circumstances. We first visited this restaurant to celebrate the birthdays of my sister and mother as a party of 7 adults and 6 kids/babies. We'd chosen this particular restaurant after researching into local places that would cater for children with allergies (one of the children has a nut allergy), as the... More

Hi Becky. Firstly last year. Your mum and others told me after the meal in the garden that they thoroughly enjoyed it though I do remember there were issues. Delays with desserts are I'm afraid going to happen when we're busy though 45 mins seems incredible esp when we only have a 2 hour window for tables on Sunday. If... More

We were 1st there in 2013 and found the service, food and atmosphere lovely. Back in 2014 and to our pleasure once again we found everything as we remembered. Consistency is rare these days long may it last

First visit with friends for Sunday lunch on a busy sunny day. We started with drinks outside and moved inside to eat. We all really enjoyed the traditional Sunday lunch with beef and one pork & crackling with extra big roast potatoes. The variety of home made ice creams and fresh fruit sorbets for desert are fabulous. Service was very... More

H there LizandGary and hank you for your fantastic review. We're very proud of our Sunday Roasts. The kitchen takes great care slow-cooking the shoulders of pork and lamb (both locally sourced) through Saturday night and the Beef Topside joint goes in on Sunday morning. Roast potatoes are tested (by me!) once the first batch is cooked and we continue... More

I agree with Kerry99 regarding the feeling that we were not welcome having brought our 2 children down. The restaurant was not particularly busy and yet the owner still felt that our children talking to each other while enroute to the toilet was disruptive to other guests. Actually one table was certainly not "disrupted" by our children as one of... More

I’ve been eagerly awaiting your predictably biased ‘review’ and it’s interesting to see how opinions differ between those drinking in the garden (until 10pm) and those sitting inside eating. Thankfully businesses like mine get the right of a balanced response here so here goes.... 1. On Friday 13th June we had 36 adults eating inside during your stay in a... More

Enjoyed lunch today, last minute adjustment to numbers booked as "the father" element suddenly had a better offer!! :) not a problem to Tom & Sam. Great food, as always, great service, still smiling staff even after a very busy lunch service. Will continue to call in whether for a pint or a 3 course lunch. Thanks.

Good food, good size portions, good wine, service, and atmosphere - £35 a head including 2 courses and a glass of wine. I like it that they state where they source their ingredients.

If you are after decent pub food in Sawbridgeworth then its difficult to see past the Orange Tree, particularly as the Hand And Crown seems to have lost it a bit. A small enough menu to make you confident that things are cooked in-house, and a specials board with some really good stuff on it. Prices - not cheap, but... More
