We were recommended this restaurant by Lorenzo from Montevibiano winery, who told us it was one of the best restaurants he had ever been to... And he was not wrong! We were greeted by Giancarlo, the chef, and he could not have been more charming and welcoming. He talked us through the menu and offered his suggestions. Everything was delicious... More

Originally we wanted to go to another restaurant, but was full, so we entered del Capitano. And we did not miss. Servce was perfect as well as the meal. I had lamb chops, top quality, and my GF had tagliata, probably the best in Italy. Well, quality has its price, dinner for two for more than 100 EUR, but will... More

Giancarlo is an amazing chef. I have special dietary restrictions and he came out and spoke to me and addressed my needs so I could enjoy an entire meal without missing any part of the experience. The meals I had there were all amazing. Like the hotel, the restaurant is full of good energy and the warmth of both owners... More

The first time we have been to Locanda, we celebrated my birthday. The amazingly creative Giancarlo has done his magic and I have been nearly in tears by his sparkling tiramisu surprise.Since then we are coming every year to this wonderful place. The dishes and the wine list are outstanding!!!!!Apart from excellent food, the whole team at Locanda is just mesmerising and... Locanda never ceases to amaze me. The setting is stunning, the beutifaul and varied, the wine list exceptional and Giancarlo a great character. I only go there twice a year, but it gets better every time. It is about Italian as it gets !

We keep going back to Locanda, lured by its wonderful food and the ever charming Giancarlo. This is one of the few places where you should actually make a point of choosing one dish from each section of the menu: Each mouthful is a taste sensation and yet served in more sensible portions (i.e. smaller) than what you typically get... We had lunch here on Sunday of the fete del Bosco We were the first to be seated for lunch and the chef was available when we were served to describe our first two courses in English. He was very friendly answering all our questions. The restaraunt soon filled up. The food was excellent I would dine there again if... More

This was a special birthday for me and I opted to be treated in Montone. We have eaten here several times and stayed twice before. Giancarlo Polito is a real chef and (whilst he hails originally from Puglia) he and his hotel are an integral part of this beautiful Umbrian hilltop town. I was surprised by close friends joining us... More

My wife and I had dinner here and both of us agreed instantly that the atmosphere is pretty stuffy... we've been in libraries with more of a buzz and everything fields very stiff including the service. It feels a little like you've left rural Umbria and entered an expensive restaurant in London or Milan but I guess some people may... More

I'm so sorry that you are getting such a hostile environment but I think your description is not realistic. The Locanda del Capitano was born as a hotel and restaurant where you can find an elegant butt familiar and friendly atmosphere.Dear traveller, Umbria is 'Rurality' but also history, culture and quality...... I hope to see you again soon in my... More
