I just don’t. Reading all the amazing reviews we decided to reserve a table and enjoy the cous cous San Vito Lo Capo is famous for.
We turn up on time and we have to wait a few minutes as the table hasn’t been set....Ok no problem.
Once the table is set we make our way to the garden. The garden is beautiful: right distance between tables, nice jazzy covers music, beautiful lemon trees, etc. you get the idea. Ambience was impeccable.
We choose the food, we decide to try four different cous cous by opting for two cous cous duos, which allow you to sample two cous cous. We also order a fritto misto (mixed fried fish, a staple of Italian seafood). We ask for some advice for the wine, which prompts the waitress to send the (alleged) sommelier.
We ask the sommelier for a white wine, we were unsure whether to go for still or still or sparkling. He was no help, just pointed at the menu and said “Questo” (this) for still or “Questo” for sparkling. No description, no nothing. We pick the sparkling one.
The worst had yet to come though. The food arrives suspiciously quickly. The mixed fried fish is honest to God the worst I’ve ever had. Scampis from an average chippy in London are far better and fresher. It was microwaved rubber squid, horrible. Just plain disgusting.
The cous cous was microwaved too. The fish cous cous, the treasure of San Vito, had a couple of dry, old bits of tuna and a couple of sad looking prawns.
I could go on and on but the bottom line is that you’re paying top dollar for microwaved food. I don’t know what happened to the Michelin critics, whether they were bribed, threatened or drunk, but this is honestly one of the worst (considering the price) restaurants I’ve ever been. A complete mug off.More
