The restaurant is noted for its excellent wine list and wonderful local and Tuscan dishes. Wine is a passion here - the cantina holds delights from both Tuscany (including a good selection of the so-called 'Super-Tuscans'). Great care has been taken in adapting the wine list to match whatever dishes happen to be in season, and you will find recommendations to match each course of your meal.Local funghi (mushrooms) in season, crostini Toscani after an old family recipe and good salami, home-made pasta (tortelli, ravioli, fettucine), gnocchi, zuppa Toscana and a good choice of main dishes. All dishes can be paired with a recommendation from the excellent wine cellar - one that has been growing for over forty years and is constantly changing and being added to. Dinner at Alpino was a bit of an odd experience. It seems to be quite litterally a 2-person operation, with the owner running the kitchen and the dining room all at once, with a bit of help from his wife (and probably a help in the kitchen, too). This results in a long wait between the time you are seated,... More

We have visited Barga on many occasions and generally stayed in the old town. This year we stayed in the Albergo Alpino with friends, for a change. We had eaten lunch here previously (3 years ago) so generally knew what to expect. It actually surpassed our expectations. The rooms were delightful, comfortable and spotless. The breakfast was excellent with cereals,... More

Went for lunch. We were made to feel very unwelcome, then after taking our food order, they said we had to move outside - we had 4 kids and it was raining! We refused, and were about to walk out when they grudgingly let us eat in the bar / cafe area. Appalling service - don't go!

We had a fantastic dinner and I would agree with several other reviews that this was one of if not the best dinner we had in Italy. I know one of other reviews said the owner was not friendly however we found him delightful. The owner is also the chef and the waiter. He explained that things have slowed with... More

My wife and I went to Alpino for dinner during our trip to Barga. Upon entering the dining room on the second floor we were greeted with an atmosphere of fine dining in a grand style rarely found today. Everything was truly spotless and the service and food was exquisite. The only thing we found a bit odd was that... More

The Alpino restaurant (above the bar) serves traditional Italian food; simple recipes, high quality fresh ingredients, homemade pasta. The services is always friendly and the setting is authentic and spotless. Excellent wine list. Very reasonable prices.

This is our regular coffee stop, excellent value on drinks and sandwiches, the cappuccinos are lovely, just like you'd expect to find in Italy.

We had a good diner here on Haloween night. Nothing scary, but a good, honest meal. We were the only patrons, and the service was attentive and gracious. The prosecco was delicious, as was the bread basket. There was a choice of a 22 Euro 4 course meal, with 2 options for each course, or you could order ala carte.... More

We spent six days in the Barga area, and our dinner at Alpino was the best meal during our stay. The owners are very welcoming, the pasta and other dishes are fresh and delicious, and the prices are very reasonable for the incredible quality of the food.
