The best fish & chips I know.

My wife and I visit Shepton Mallett every year and on each visit we eat in at Whitstones. This year we went twice it was so good. The fish fillets are large; the batter is the best we have ever tasted - crisp and dry. The chips are good although the portions are ridiculously large. The service... read more

Great, fresh fish well cooked in a crisp batter which was almost too much for us. The chips were 'double cooked' crisp and dry but here the massive portions did defeat us. This place provides award-winning meals and is a regular stop for us. Thoroughly recommended.

Been here several times for takeout. Chips can be a bit hit & miss, not the best I've tasted, but the fish & burgers are always very nice. Can be an expensive take out meal though, but that seems to be the same @ most places I guess!

Definitely the best fish and chip shop around here. Always get a decent meal with plenty to eat at a very reasonable price. :)

Very popular and busy restaurant so booking is essential. Went with a party of six and chose standard and large haddock, when it arrived their was no apparent difference between the large and the standard fish portions, it was queried with the waitress, who clearly was not interested, said it comes as it comes, the onion rings were absolutely dripping... For a few extra pounds you can sit down in the restaurant and enjoy your food. For my family it is a relatively cheap meal out option when we don't want to cook for ourselves and fancy a few hours out of the home. Friendly staff too! Parking can be a bit haphazard though.

I've been a couple of times for a take-away, and once for a sit down meal. Both times I've gone for a take-away the queues and waiting times were really long. The food is delicious, on par with a top quality 'fresh' fish and chip shop by the sea- and yet, in an inland market town. They have won a... More

We have visited Whitstones a few times before and have always been impressed, however this time we thought it was not up to the standard of previous visits; this is the first time we have visited in the evening - we have always had the lunchtime senior citizens deal before but this is not available in the evening. They don't... More
