Ranked #62 of 191 restaurants in Hove
Cuisines: British
Dining options: Breakfast/Brunch
Description: A world of buttery biscuits and bold dark brownies, Cream teas served in vintage china tea-sets and good food with no fuss.We want you to feel like you have popped into your grandma's house for Welsh Rarebit and a slice of raspberry and rosewater Victoria sponge to follow, served on vintage china with a silver cake fork. For lunch there is a large menu of freshly prepared dishes, which includes an all-day breakfast section, the Spinach potato Rosti is a favourite, topped with melted cheese and an organic poached egg, and the proper homemade chips are not to be missed. The organic cappuccinos are smooth and fairly-traded and there are freshly pressed juices and fruit smoothies to be savoured. The Rosebud tea is also one to try from the large selection of loose teas, which looks as pretty as it tastes. Our intention is for our cafe and our food to be comforting and nourishing, and have tried to create a little haven in hove where you can maybe forget about the outside world for a brief moment as you enjoy your organic latte listening to Billlie Holiday.

A delightful establishment with friendly staff providing excellent service. The food looked scrumptious and did not disappoint; the only problem was making the right choices! Hubby was totally satisfied with his "proper" cuppa, a rare occasion indeed. The staff even told us the name of the local supplier and handed us some tea bags to take home to be getting... More

The food is amazing and the service equally impressive! We visit here as often as possible for breakfast as it never disappoints

Been a few times for brunch/lunch and had a good experience each time. Good veggie choices at a very good price. Lovely décor and good service. An excellent lunch venue, one of the best in Hove now that the Hub has closed.

Well I have a bit of a love hate relationship with Ethel's. I love the décor, the ambience and the staff are really friendly but the food is always a bit disappointing. Good points first. The teas and cakes are always first rate. I think the cakes are bought in from an artisan baker they are of good quality, moist yet... More

I was delighted to find Ethel's as it is such a pretty shop and has so much character. Unfortunately the "book" (food) did not live up to it's cover. I went in at lunchtime and it was quite full so I expected to have to wait, and wait I did. The service was exceedingly slow and I was worried about... More

I started coming here over a year ago and thought I'd found Hove's hidden gem - very sadly no longer. They used to have fabulous staff...Where have they gone? Was sad to see first one girl go a while back and then another lady who was lovely more recently. Came here twice in past month and had bad customer service... More

Tucked away in the rather dismal Blatchington Road, Ethel's Kitchen is a real find. Great for lunch or afternoon tea. Or Sunday brunch. Little tables outside mean you can watch the great and the good shuffle past on their way to the wondrous George Street.

Met with friends and had a delightful lunch. Busy as usual but excellent service. Well catered for in all areas. The children around here are given crayons and a colouring sheet....I'm sure the parents really appreciate this. All in all, a wonderful experience. We will be back. :-)
