Traditional country restaurant

Lovely atmosphere and safe cooking at the traditional Dutch converted house, full of antiques, polished walnut, brass chandeliers etc (you get the idea). Reasonably priced excellent cooking and a lovely setting. Recommended if you don't mind the drive from Utrecht. I wasn't thrilled about the young... read more

Lovely atmosphere and safe cooking at the traditional Dutch converted house, full of antiques, polished walnut, brass chandeliers etc (you get the idea). Reasonably priced excellent cooking and a lovely setting. Recommended if you don't mind the drive from Utrecht. I wasn't thrilled about the young family that turned up in jeans and a barking dog, but that (I hope)... More

Lage Vuursche is an old small village located in the middle of the country surrounded by forests. Being a cluster of old houses, close to the Drakenstein palace and other estates, its history goes back to the 16th century. Due to its character, it is attractive to a lot of people. One can walk or bike around in the woods... More

Over the last forty years I've been here more than once, usually for lunch, usually to enjoy one of their great pancakes. Simple food, but very tasty. This time I had an apple pancake. My wife, whose passion for pancakes, Dutch style, does not match mine, has mussels instead and really liked them. The decoration is consciously old-fashioned, and that's... More

This time, the cooking was great. True, style may be a tad oldfashioned, but starters and main meal were excellent, and had been carefully prepared. The staff was very friendly, taking care of adequate ventilation as per our request.

This title was inspired on the comments of a fellow-traveler at Tripadvisor who apparently was mesmerized by the oldfashioned atmosphere of this restaurant. It's definitely better than "just pancakes". It should be stressed that the Lage Vuursche village consists of a cluster of eating spots just next door of the Drakensteijn palace, several of them being just simple, but 2... More

An excellent place for lunch of dinner when taking a stroll through the beautiful beech forests of "Utrechtse Heuvelrug". Parking may be limited during the touristic rush hours in the weekend.

I met up with my family at De Lage Vuursche for lunch on a Saturday in early September. The waitress took our order and entered it on an i-Pod like device. The soups arrived fairly quickly after our order was taken. However, after the soup-eaters finished, nothing happened for a long time (about 20 minutes). We had to remind our... More

Old Dutch atmosphere, friendly and hospitable service; sitiuated opposite to Castle Drakestein, the private house of Queen Beatrix. Sunny terrace. Good to combine with a walk in the woods of Lage Vuursche.
