We have been there many times and have enjoyed the views and the food. Unfortunately we always see to have a problem with the service. We find that we do not have the close attention as the locals ? Today although the restaurant was empty...as they had just opened they got our order wrong twice. We were not asked if everything was ok or if we required a drink or water. We would have ordered a bottle of wine with our meal. We were horrified that neither of of the toilets had a seat . For such a nice restaurant surely this should be a basic requirement ?More

Visited on a typical sunny Sunday afternoon, it has great views right by the sea, which can often lap up around your feet depending on the tide. We had the fantastic pavia (fried fish in batter) and chips. Sadly chips have always been expensive here...and at 7 Euros for a plate is ridiculous.More

Dropped by Bar Las Canteras this afternoon whilst strolling along the seafront and what a great find we had for both view and entertainment outside but importantly the yummy fresh seafood within. We ordered five dishes including deep fried squid (baby squid), roasted bell peppers...and octopus salad. On a warm Saturday afternoon there is no better a way to enjoy seafood washed down by a nice cold beer. The bar also has outside balcony space for tables and chairs which are exposed to the lapping waves which crash upon the seawall and which periodically send customers scurrying away from a drenching, but all done in good spirits. A great little find in a quite costal townMore

Great sunset and food. Very busy. A must do in Chipiona, the Chef is great! We go there at each visit, though it looks like a tourist trap, the quality of food is actually excellent.

My family and I ate here the other night. We came early and sat outside on the patio where we had a great view of the sunset. Our waiter brought us some bread and olives to munch on while we waited for the kitchen to...open (kitchen opened at 2130). The bread was hard and tasted stale. We received no olive oil or vinegar to dip the bread in, even though I saw other tables being brought oil and vinegar. We decided to order several items. The Pavia (fried fish sticks) and fish croquettes excellent. The Pulpo was also very good. The grilled shrimps were okay, rather on the small side. Overall, we would return to the restaurant for the view and some of the food.More

Had a freshly caught fish cooked on their charcoal grill. Nice not to have fried fish and it was delicious. We choose a large fish for four which was plenty to eat. Obviously more expensive than some of the other dishes but well worth it-...just check the price of the fish before choosing.More

One of the famous signature dishes of the UK is fish and chips but, sadly, the quality of the product served up can be extremely variable, including down to almost inedible. Bar Las Canteras, a beachside restaurant in the Spanish holiday resort of Chipiona, does...not actually offer it on the menu but diners can create their own by combining pavia, white fish deep fried in what seems very akin to beer batter, with patatas fritas. There may be no mushy peas available but this fish and chip combo is far superior to many I have eaten in England – and it is cheap. Las Canteras is a neat and tidy place in an atmospheric setting, particularly at high tide when those sitting on some tables can get showered with spray from waves breaking on its terrace! The menu is straightforward enough but portions are extremely generous and the food tasty to boot. For those not motivated by the dish above the barbecue-grilled fresh fish is an attractive option, particularly if it comes paired with grilled vegetables to die for – tomatoes, peppers and mushrooms liberally dosed with olive oil, garlic and maybe some balsamic vinegar. You won’t have to worry too much about vampire attacks after consuming it… The downside of the fish is that though you go and pick your own from a range laid out on ice, before it is prepared and cooked, the mark up on the local supermarket price per kilo is considerable. Having said that the fish is brilliant, and well-cooked, and was probably landed at the nearby fishing port and holiday resort of Sanlucar the same day. If you go for lunch bear in mind that it does not open until 1.30pm and even then you may find the staff still eating their own lunch and therefore not providing service. There is an almost adjacent car park (about 40 yards away) which is paid for in the month or two of high season (July and August) but otherwise free. The location beneath the lighthouse is ideal for a post-meal stroll along the town’s southern beach where there are a number of ice cream outlets for those looking for more calories. I have eaten here maybe a dozen times and never been disappointed.More

First night arrived late in Chipiona and we rushed out to find somewhere to eat. Passed a lot of snack/bar places then found this place. No English menu and staff spoke next to no English, but we did our best interpreting and got pretty good...fish and chip meals. Best chips I've had for a long time. Nicely cooked fish. Nothing fancy, just quality simple food. It would be a great location by the sea at sunset, but we were far too late for that!More

We saw this restaurant on our last trip to Spain. We said we wanted to try this restaurant upon our next visit. Today we had lunch, It was very good. The server was great and was very patient with us, due to the fact, that...we only speak English. We asked our server for a menu in English and it worked out just fine. We enjoyed the salad, with tuna and we also ordered a tomato, onion and pepper plate to put on top of our salads. It was so fresh, the quality of the produce was excellent. I had the pork steak with french fries. I especially liked the diced vegetable medley of tomatoes, squash and eggplant, almost like a relish, delicious! My wife had eggs potatoes and grilled peppers. She enjoyed hers as well. We will definitely go back before we leave Spain. We want to have one of the fish dishes next time.More

The location of this beach bar/restaurant is idyllic, situated below the promenade at beach level and accessed by a steep ramp or stairs. It is a fantastic place to sit and watch the waves both on a glorious sunny day (sat outside on the terrace...where the tide can lap under your feet as you eat) or on a stormy winter day when they are crashing outside. The menu is quite short; a range of cold fish/seafood salads, various types of fried fish (their pavia is particularly good) and also their grilled fish cooked on the BBQ. We started with pavia (cod & salt cod fillets cooked as per chip shops in the UK). We then had BBQ grilled sea bass which was served with chips (extra side order, which can be expensive at 7 Euros for a portion, although we got charged 3.5 Euros for half a portion) and also BBQ grilled vegetables of tomatoes with asparagus. The fish is always brilliant - tasty and so very fresh, you cannot go wrong and the grilled vegetables sides are delicious.More
