This taverna was recommended to us as having local colour and being both a bar and taverna. Sadly although the service was friendly and helpful the pasta dishes were presented to us as a glutinous mass which was not only unappealing and unattractive but was also unpleasant to eat. As there are many other restaurants in Castelnuovo in two weeks... More

Great local food, well presented, with plenty of choice. Very good value e.g. a litre of house wine for 5 Euros! Very friendly staff. Obviously it's mostly Italians who eat there - ask for the English translation of the menu.

If you want to avoid the usual tourist haunts and experience the real-meal-deal while touring the Chianti region, this is the place for you. My wife and I accidentally encountered this hidden gem, enjoying a fabulous traditional Italian lunch along with dozens of locals. We had to strain our Italian to the limit, but the staff were very pleasant and... More

Our party of three had a very nice meal here on our first night in Tuscany. It would be the only dinner for 3 people that included wine for under 100 euros all total. It just goes to show that there are plenty of places to dine that don't have to be crazy expensive. I've really found Tuscany to be... More

This was recommended by the owner of the place we were staying at. She said its a family owned restaurant serving good food and at a very reasonable price... And she was absolutely right and we had breakfast and dinner there the entire time we were at Castelnuovo. The first dinner was a bit of a challenge though because we... More

During our week stay in Tuscany we had lunch in this restaurant twice. First time a local person invited us there for authentic Tuscan food. We probably would have never noticed this place ourselves, but we are glad that we were taken there. Second time we came because we liked it so much the first time. All menus are in... More

The Taverna is a small place and frequented also by locals, so you'd better book in advance. It offers superb Tuscan cooking and a wide choice of Chianti wines at very reasonable prices. Very friendly staff, but you might have a while for your food when the place is busy (hey, you are on holiday, aren't you?) Skip either the... More

We were seven people comming here for lunch based on recommendation from Felsina Winery. This is a place for locals where the workers and local families come. It was fantastic. The service was a bit slow and we were waiting about 15 mins just to get the menu, which is only in Italian. The primi piati are around 8 EUR,... More

By old style I don't mean ancient but I remember visiting tuscany 15-20 years ago and this still bears that kind of atmosphere.portions are large menu is interesting and house-wine is more than decent (unsurprisingly for a place in the middle of the Chianti). been there 2 times now, and there always seems to be many germans around. The decor... More
