We dined here twice during a short stay at Castelnouvo Berardenga. It was recommended by some of the locals. Food was good, mostly homemade and of excellent value. The service was friendly and warm/sincere. The interior is a bit cheesy, which appears to be typical for the area though. After all, we had a great evening here.

Castelnouvo Berardenga is not a fancy place in Tuscany very limited outside facilities (inside is not fancy either, not for a romantic dinner) have to walk through the bar to get in the dining room reservation is recommended as it is always full with locals service is friendly and OK very good traditional food, reasonably priced it is a fun... We have been visiting this area for twenty years and we always eat in the Taverna several times. It is a very traditional food with good quality food cooked simply. The staff are very friendly and it is excellent value for money.

I know that restaurant reviews can be incredibly subjective, how can a place have dozens of gushing reviews claiming the greatest and friendliest service ever while others claim it was a flop of epic proportions? My take on why La Taverna is so great is the food and how staff treated us. We dont need to be fawned over, nor... More

This taverna was recommended to us as having local colour and being both a bar and taverna. Sadly although the service was friendly and helpful the pasta dishes were presented to us as a glutinous mass which was not only unappealing and unattractive but was also unpleasant to eat. As there are many other restaurants in Castelnuovo in two weeks... More

Great local food, well presented, with plenty of choice. Very good value e.g. a litre of house wine for 5 Euros! Very friendly staff. Obviously it's mostly Italians who eat there - ask for the English translation of the menu.

If you want to avoid the usual tourist haunts and experience the real-meal-deal while touring the Chianti region, this is the place for you. My wife and I accidentally encountered this hidden gem, enjoying a fabulous traditional Italian lunch along with dozens of locals. We had to strain our Italian to the limit, but the staff were very pleasant and... More

Our party of three had a very nice meal here on our first night in Tuscany. It would be the only dinner for 3 people that included wine for under 100 euros all total. It just goes to show that there are plenty of places to dine that don't have to be crazy expensive. I've really found Tuscany to be... More

This was recommended by the owner of the place we were staying at. She said its a family owned restaurant serving good food and at a very reasonable price... And she was absolutely right and we had breakfast and dinner there the entire time we were at Castelnuovo. The first dinner was a bit of a challenge though because we... More
