Maybe because we were there in September, and therefor not many tourists, we were the only foreigners between big Italian families. It's a paradise for carnivores! Simple interior, great chilled primitivo wine and a lovely english speaking hardworking waitress, who took her time explaining everything to us. We tried the donkey and the amazing veal filet. Be sure to get... More

Rosticceria is a specialty in this small but lovely town, and this is an excellent place to sample it. The meats were extremely well prepared. I'd also recommend the starters of donkey in a red sauce and the mortadella, both specialties of the house. Surprisingly budget-friendly given the quality of the meat.

We weren't really that hungry when we went there but as soon we saw all the delicious stuff we just had to get all the recommendations of the waiters. But the best were the starters, where you get six different local specialities and of course the salsiccia straight from the butcher. Always worth a visit.

Eating meat and choosing by the butcher is typical for Cisternino. So you have to do this. The taste of the meat is special. In the restaurant there is a kind of smell like in an abbatoir. But we have to say ... the italians like it a lot! Lot of people in this crowded place. For us ... not... More

If you like top quality meat cooked and served straight from the butcher, this is the place for you! Just point at what you want unless your Italian is good enough to discuss the various meat with the butcher, then it will be weighed , cooked to your liking and served at your table in the adjacent restaurant. Good choice... More

Remember to book very far in advance. We booked 5 days in advance but it was worth it. You choose your meat from the butchers in the rear of the restaurant according to the typical braceria of cisternino. The service was impeccable and incredibly friendly. It is not a place to sit down for hours over your meal as they... More

Salad made with only iceberg lettuce and tomatoes. Even before you sit down they want you to to and select your meat before even having a chance to look at the menu. All very rushed. I ordered the beef (about 250 grams) cooked medium and it came well done, almost burnt! Not impressed - this restaurant was recommended by our... More

Tasty in all its simplicity. You are to selected your own meat in the glass case of the butcher: port, beef, lamb or sausage. Or a combination. Pay by the kilo and tell how you like your meat to be cooked. Then you cross the ally and take blace in a basic basement setting, where you can have some anti-pasti... More

We've already been there a few times and we'll keep on going forever! They are the best of the best of apulian "fornelli". They are in a beautiful city - Cisternino - that you will enjoy after dinner to help digestion :) and the place is an authentic rustic taverna, people are nicest and the meat is from heaven. Try...
