Delicious lunch, very well presented and cooked. Well decorated and interesting atmosphere as the walls are carved out of the rock. There were locals eating there which is always a good sign. The blue cheese and gingerbread dessert with the suggested desert wine was superb.

Had seen a number of reviews and recommendations for this place while planning our Loire trip from the UK so made a reservation for a Saturday night. The owner of our accommodation for the night in question also suggested it so we were naturally looking forward to a nice meal. On arrival the welcome was friendly enough, the menu as... More

Food was very good, very pleasant atmosphere, set in a cave too, you need to book. The restaurant is in the township of Turquant, within walking distance from the accommodation.

This is the restaurant in France that convinced me if it’s described as gastronomic, then think long and hard, and study the menu before you ever go. Gastronomic apparently has nothing to do with fresh food that is well prepared. It’s a buzz word for food so strange that it will show up on Iron Chef. The building itself is... More

We came here at the recommendation of the owner of the chateau where we had just bought some wine. The parti pris here is old fashioned vegetables such as jerusalem artichoke (helianthe), which are used in the cooking here. We had at least 3 veggies which we have never eaten anywhere else and could not tell you the name of... More

L'Helianthe is situated a short but uphill walk from the centre of Turquant. It's a troglodyte building with a fairly normal frontage but most of the restaurant is set into the rock face. For this type of building it's quite spacious and airy but of course there are no tables with a view! Don't let this put you off as... More

A bit middle England. Great food and service - a tourist "find". My pork cheeks were sublime. The lamb shank was equally good.

My daughter and I were there on Sep15 for lunch. Turquant It's a wonderful artsy village with an absolute gem of a restaurant. I would fly from Australia to France just to eat here again it was that good. Rose was wonderful too.Service great and friendly with good English .It was a sleepy Monday with only about 10 diners so... More

We decided to have a dinner in a "cave" restaurant, which I've learned are quite typical in the Saumur area. I admit I was slightly afraid that it could have been the typical tourist trap. After the dinner I was glad I was wrong. The restaurant is not the easiest one to find, as it's located in a small alley,... More
