We stopped here in this charming village for a browse through the many artist shops and lunch. It was a complete surprise. Well presented, beautifully cooked and with an excellent attention to a balance of flavours. The price was good at 15 euros for a main course. Service was pleasant and efficient.

French cooking at it's best. Very clever use of vegetables and meats produced with a real understanding of how traditional flavours work. A varied wine cellar with prices that didn't shock delivered by efficient staff that made us feel at home. We've dined in Michelin Stared Restaurants that quite simply couldn't deliver this standard. Good value for money, making us... More

This unique setting, partly in a troglodyte partly in an extension added on to the cave portion, is delighful. The service is warm and friendly. At lunch time, I had the cod with a tagliatelle of fresh vegetables which was beautifully presented. While the sauce and veggies were delicious, I found the fish itself a bit watery. Dessert was a... The food is Delicious, the staff help us to understand the menu, the atmosphere is great. The restaurant is in a cave, which make it special.

Fun cave setting with interesting local sculptures. Very warm friendly service yet with the professionalism one gets used to in France. Generally lovely food especially my husband's foie gras and my delicious rabbit main course which really lived up to the rustic 19 century image. Wish I had tried the 3 Loire river fish speciality - next time! Only criticism... More

This restaurant has a very different appeal set in a "cave" type surroundings, very good service and wonderful food. We dined with some friend who also thought the whole experience was fantastic well worth a visit if in the area.

Living in London and dining out a lot, I had high expectations about the food in the Loire valley. Overall the food was good, bordering on very good most of the time. However, it was l'helianthe that finally nailed delivering a great dinner!! My lamb shoulder with polenta was amazing. The flavour that was packed into the lamb was immense.... More

The biggest disappointment here was that we had been told about their exciting use of old-fashioned vegetables..... So my vegetarian wife was very excited....... But the non-meat dish was not exciting (or filling) at all. The meat part of my dish was very nice.... But the veges were uninspiring. Overall thought it lacked atmosphere, the service was only ok, the... More

The restaurant stretches back into a tuffeau cave and was a very charming location for our last night of the holiday. They coped well with our various dietary foibles and allergies and the food was exciting, often using more old fashioned vegetables. Our daughter struggled with the foie gras expecting pate and getting lightly cooked liver - but the surprise... More

This area has what the French call Troglodites or cave dwellers. Houses and this restaurant are dug out of the chalk caves, which also house wine caves. The Helianthe had good service, waiters who spoke some English, and ok food.
