A friendly family welcome is extended to all who visit The Highwayman, a grade II listed 17th century timber framed building that has been sympathetically extended. Located on the A140, just a few minutes outside Ipswich, Needham Market and Stowmarket in Suffolk, The Highwayman is easily accessible and an ideal meeting point for all occasions.David & Olga took over the running of The Highwayman restaurant in Ipswich in October 2004 and warmly welcome everyone to sample the honest homecooked food, a good selection and well kept real ales. The main restaurant and galleries provide a traditional and relaxing atmosphere in the which to dine amongst soft lighting that compliments the exposed oak frame of the building. Our food is all about the ingredients which, whenever possible, are locally sourced, seasonal and always freshly prepared. In particular a relaxing Sunday lunchtime at The Highwayman is sure to become a tradition. Tuck into roast rib of beef with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables.

Perfect start to a holiday

This restaurant is a little off of our route but have to go there to get a great meal to start our holiday. We have got to know the staff as they are so friendly remembering us every time. We also know that they will have good food to choose from and that they do not disappoint.

Very friendly welcome and tasty Roast Beef dinner. However, as I sat eating my meal I noticed how dusty and dated the upper restaurant area was. Such a shame because the food was good.I wouldn't recommend to friends until they give the place a good spring clean.

Stopped by chance, on our way from Folkestone to Great Yarmouth. We were warmly greeted by the host, David Parry, who took the time to describe the various cask ales he had on tap. The service and David's enthusiasm for his business was outstanding. My wife and I ordered Steak and Mushroom Pie, which David said would take about 25... More

Excellent freshly cooked food - worth waiting for. Excellent customer service. Perfect setting. Can be a bit noisy early evening though.

Mine host very welcoming - we all opted for the Ukrainian chicken dish, which was well cooked and in generous portion, but vegetables were a little meagre considering the cost. Meat appears to be locally sourced. Pleasant to watch the birds at the garden feeder through the window. Mine host and the lady chef both very friendly and welcoming. Ample... More

We've been here a few times for dinner and always had a really excellent meal and been made to feel very welcome by the friendly landlord and staff. The food is of a very high standard using locally sourced products which is important. Olga the chef is first rate and David is attentive and fun. Waitressing staff also very good.... More

The first time I went to the high way man,at Christmas with my husband and my cousin and her husband, we had a beautiful meal, so we could not wait to return and was so disappointed , food wasn't as good, and not a lot of choice, we won't be returning.

Food was very good if a little overpriced. Second time I've been here and second time landlord has made me feel small though, must be my face.

We stopped at this restaurant last night as our original destination was closed due to road works. The interior was very nice a barn type conversion and the food was good but not in a quantity i would expect for the prices. I had the chicken in a mushroom sauce which was cooked well not dry like chicken can be.... More

There were 7 of us, booked for a special Christmas meal. In the past I could not fault the service or food but this time we all felt that they had cut back on the normally excellent food. For a start the whole meal was served on the plate, most unusual for the highwayman! At was not piping hot and... More
