A friendly family welcome is extended to all who visit The Highwayman, a grade II listed 17th century timber framed building that has been sympathetically extended. Located on the A140, just a few minutes outside Ipswich, Needham Market and Stowmarket in Suffolk, The Highwayman is easily accessible and an ideal meeting point for all occasions.David & Olga took over the running of The Highwayman restaurant in Ipswich in October 2004 and warmly welcome everyone to sample the honest homecooked food, a good selection and well kept real ales. The main restaurant and galleries provide a traditional and relaxing atmosphere in the which to dine amongst soft lighting that compliments the exposed oak frame of the building. Our food is all about the ingredients which, whenever possible, are locally sourced, seasonal and always freshly prepared. In particular a relaxing Sunday lunchtime at The Highwayman is sure to become a tradition. Tuck into roast rib of beef with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables.

Nothing was too much trouble!

The very proud owners go out of their way to welcome and spend time with you, a real family welcome. Eating casseoulet in the garden on a summers lunchtime was a rare treat, I would happily go back for an action replay.... On the way to the owl sanctuary. Family and I went here on our way to Framlingham Castle. Wish we could have stayed longer. The bar tender really took an interest in helping us select a beer. The chef/waitress was great too! Helped guide us to a great meal! Hubby had the duck and I had the chicken. They both were amazing. The wait didn't bother us... More

this place is a little quiet and they could maybe do with playing with the lighting and décor but, and its a big but, the food is great and the service warm.

A warm welcome was given upon arrival and we were invited to sit in the bar area with our drinks to peruse the menu and order. The menu was not extensive but there was an good choice to be had when the specials were included. After ordering we sat for a while before being shown to our table. The food... More

A lovely looking pub/restaurant with lots of lovely flowers in the gardens. The welcome was a warm one, the choice of food wide and the quality of the food excellent! We had the smoked salmon & crayfish starter with a chilli sauce - which was gorgeous. I followed with the pie of the day (beef, ale & mushroom) which was... More

I pre-booked a party for 30 guests at this restaurant, and was very pleased with everything. This is a family run private restaurant and the food quality is excellent. Thank you Olga and David for your help in organising the event and for going that extra mile to accommodate my large party.

The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive, nothing was too much to ask for. It was a lovely atmosphere, and the food was very tasty. Our family had a great time in this cosy cottage type pub, great for family days out.

We had diner and lunch at Highwayman. Owners are very friendly and the is food excellent, as is the price. The location is a bit odd on a dual carriageway, especially for a continental driver, but not too big a problem. When staying or travelling in the Ipswich/Suffolk area, more than worth a stop.

We have been coming here for a few years now and always bring friends who love it as much as we do. It's always a special event. David and Olga and their staff are so friendly it's like visiting good friends. The food is always good, fresh, tasty and well cooked and the building has a nice homely feel. I'd... More

Regrettably I only get to visit this place when I'm on holiday as I live just too far away for regular visits. Each visit has been blessed with great food, a warm welcome and beautiful surroundings. I can thoroughly recommend this pub restaurant and only wish I lived nearer.
