Description: A friendly family welcome is extended to all who visit The Highwayman, a grade II listed 17th century timber framed building that has been sympathetically extended. Located on the A140, just a few minutes outside Ipswich, Needham Market and Stowmarket in Suffolk, The Highwayman is easily accessible and an ideal meeting point for all occasions.David & Olga took over the running of The Highwayman restaurant in Ipswich in October 2004 and warmly welcome everyone to sample the honest homecooked food, a good selection and well kept real ales. The main restaurant and galleries provide a traditional and relaxing atmosphere in the which to dine amongst soft lighting that compliments the exposed oak frame of the building. Our food is all about the ingredients which, whenever possible, are locally sourced, seasonal and always freshly prepared. In particular a relaxing Sunday lunchtime at The Highwayman is sure to become a tradition. Tuck into roast rib of beef with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables.

A great find, the staff and owners were very friendly and accommodating to me my partner and our 18 month old daughter. The roast we had was excellent, the beef melted in the mouth, and would recommend the Highwayman as a great place for a meal. Will definitely be going back to try the evening menu.

My wife and I visited here for our anniversary and very much enjoyed our evening. We were made to feel very welcome by all and the whole evening was relaxed. The menu wasn't massive, but when combined with the specials both of us had options for each course. My wife had antipasti to start while I had mushrooms baked in... More

Met some friends here for dinner as it was a central location. Friendly service and a good choice of specials and the standard menu. All the food was great quality and really enjoyable. All in all a great evening, we'll be back

Just visited the highwayman after only passing it's iconic sign on the a140 hundreds of times! A Facebook friend had mentioned having their anniversary meal there and after seeing all these great reviews decided to try it on a Friday evening. We have found our new 'go to' pub as the food was superbly tasty, carefully homemade and filling. The... More

Visited for Sunday lunch. Was pleasantly surprised to find that the chef Olga, who is Ukrainian, likes to throw in traditional dishes from her home turf - onto the menu. My wife had the fish course - Sea Bass - which was well cooked, as were the vegetables, and the portion size was generous. I tried the Golubtsi, a traditional... More

Although we live just 25 minutes away we had never come across this place before and as a last minute decision turned up for a mid week lunch. Such a lovely friendly welcome from the owner and what a beautiful place. The menu was small but perfectly adequate. Both my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals and drinks and... More

We had a lovely lunch at The Highwayman. The owner, David, was really friendly and helpful and immediately offered a warm, genuine welcome. The menu offered a wide range of tasty lunches that would suit most appetites. I had a delicious cromer crab salad and my partner had good old ham, egg and chips. Both dishes were tasty and freshly... More

Found this place completely my accident. We were coming from London heading to a party and stopped for late lunch. We were taken back the hospitality shown to us. The owner (David) welcoming, great sense of humour, took us through the outstanding specials on the board. His wife is the chef and just wonderful. Food was mouth-wateringly good , we... More

Stopped by on our way back from a hospital visit in London in need of a meal and were tempted by the home made soup and the duck starter.. this was followed by Ham egg and chips; which was also delicious.. We should have stopped at two courses but were swayed by the unusual desert, Russian celebration cake and Eton... More
