Description: The Visitor Centre, Carnforth Station. A film, Brief Encounter, was filmed here in 1945 and the part of the station used in the film has been refurbished and there is a museum, attracting not only film but train buffs. This refreshment room is one of the best kept secrets area. In all probability better marketing would spoil the unique atmosphere and nostalgia. When visiting its the first door on the right when emerging from the platform underpass following the Heritage Centre signage. The "big boys" full English is remarkable with a choice of breads, superb beverages - the premises... More

It would appear I incorrectly associated the Brief Encounter Refreshment Room with the visitors centre at Carnforth Station following my visit on Sunday. The visitors centre is indeed a gem and my little 4 year old loves to visit regularly. My point was the shocking bacon that was served up to me on Sunday, I like my bacon crispy but... More

Have visited the station and refreshment room before, as a couple had the ham, cheese , tomato toasted sandwich and beef/ horseradish sandwich, both extremely good, lovely coleslaw and salad with both. Owner a delight to talk to, very friendly. Will be back, when we are again in this area.

On holiday in the area so called in for lunch whilst visiting the Heritage Centre. Was hoping for a. Sunday Roast (as had seen this mentioned online) however was told that due to the Model Railway Exhibition being held that Sunday it was too busy to serve a roast meal. Decided on toasted sandwiches and tea instead. Both fine and... More

Enjoyed a basic lunch here. Service OK. Nice atmosphere but the big attraction is the free museum. It is well set out with a huge number of railway memorabilia, and of course a permanently showing of Brief Encounter. Parking is Pay and Display in the station forecourt and there is a long ramp to get under the main line to... More

There is a museum, entrance free, on the station platform with mementos of the railway, the war and the classic film Brief Encounter which was filmed there. The food was delicious and the place has a real atmosphere, the staff were friendly and the service was great. Well worth a visit.

En-route to Ratty yesterday, I stopped off at Brief Encounter for a steaming hot cup of coffee and an eccles cake freshly baked at the bakery next door. On other days I have had a nice substantial breakfast. or lunch.

Had a vague motion to stop here and not disappointed. Soup and sandwich very good value but wait - the star of the show is the station. Very interesting museum and easily good for a decent visit - not to mention the endless showings of Brief Encounter!

This is a popular place with the locals, easy to get to (on one of the station platforms) and it serves tasty food, cooked specially for you. Great for light lunches, or cofee and tea treates. It serves traditional English fare at reasonable prices, and the portions are good. As well as the interior main room (as seen in Brief... More
