Relaxing period atmosphere... food could be improved

This is a very pleasant spot for a good cup of tea and a cake. The rooms are decorated in 1940s style and there's a nice feel to the place. The staff are very friendly and obliging but forgot to provide a knife or napkin for my sandwich or scone and then went missing when I tried to acquire... read more

The cafe is set out as it was in the famous classic movie BRIEF ENCOUNTER. Lovely breakfast, friendly staff and very quirky. Well worth a visit for food or drink. Also next door theirs a great railway/Brief Encounter museum. And don't forget to pop across the platform to The Snug Micropub for some fantastic real ale and meet the locals.

It is a wonderful recreation of the Station Refreshment Room as it was when filming took place. We had coffee in the stationmasters Office by a glowing coal fire, sitting where Celia Johnson thawed out in the early hours of the morning between takes. The chef presented the home made Christmas Dinner In A Pie before it went in the... More

The atmosphere in the station and museum is fantastic but the food in the cafe really misses an opportunity to roll back the years and serve up something memorable to match the effort that has gone into the rest of the place. Proper leaf tea, freshly-made sandwiches and home-made cakes would be welcome. The menu needs more imagination to finish... More

Six of us are here very recently after a great walk along the Lancaster Canal from Tewitfield. So we were all hungry and thirsty and looking forward to lunch. The service was good and food very nice and we all enjoyed our visit. I would say that the choice of ales is a bit limited but the wine was nice... More

A good place to have a coffee or a meal after looking at all the exhibits. The staff were very helpful and a great cup of coffee and a cake.

We popped in here for lunch while in the area. Toasted sandwich was lovely and came with a really refreshing chopped salad. Egg sandwich was a little less tasty, but the salad was nice. A little pricy, £16.00 for two sandwiches and coffee, but with a captive audience it could have been a lot more expensive.

Have been to the heritage centre a few times and it's a great place to visit with interesting buildings and film of Brief Encounter and the tea room is just like it was but we had drinks there last time abd found it expensive and a no no is that there was no prices on the menu

First thing to note is everything shuts at 4. I got there at 3.45, I had not checked and so it was my fault. The manager mentioned they did a breakfast so I decided to go early the next day for 9 and have breakfast before the 'Brief encounter' next door. Got there at 9.15 the next day having decided...
