Lovely Food and Drink

We came to Carnforth for a bit of a mooch and were very pleasantly surprised to come across this refreshment room (not all of us knew that A Brief Encounter was filmed here) and what a lovely surprise it was! The food is freshly made, the soup was pronounced delicious, the homemade coleslaw was... read more

We visited in May and although we found the museum and station interesting and well presented, we were disappointed with our lunch in the tea room. The refreshment room itself is very nostalgic and of its period but the food was poor. The bread was not home made as advertised and the cheese poor, although my husband enjoyed his sausage.... I have visited the Carnforth Heritage centre several times but never went to the Brief Encounter Refreshment Room until a few days ago. I found it to be a pleasant experience, good food, great selection on the menu and all freshly cooked. I really enjoyed the carrot and ginger soup with home made bread, it was delicious. After eating in... More

This refreshment has been fully restored by the people in Carnforth, it's very famous for being featured in the film A Brief Encounter, hence the name, The prices are not expensive and everything is cooked on site, the cakes are home made and a good selection, When you go in there you feel as though you have travelled back in... Worth a visit just for the nostalgia. We enjoyed excellent coffee served in historic surroundings. It just lacked the smell of steam trains. Whilst there spend an hour or so in the heritage centre, It's free just make a donation.

We came across this restaurant while visiting the Carnforth Heritage Centre, it made a lovely end to the experience. Staff were friendly and helpful. Menu varied. Definitely worth a visit - especially if you are visiting the railway museum.

The food was 10 out of 10 and didn't take long to be served however the queue to order and pay was lengthy as there was one assistant who was rushed off his feet taking orders, payment and providing cutlery/crockery for the orders. The rooms are nice with the artwork on the walls. Maybe they were short staffed the day... More

If you are into films you will be into the Carnforth Station cafe. Scene of the famous Brief Encounter, the tea room has been restored as to how it was in the film. They sell the usual range of tea room food and there is an interesting museum attached.

If you plan on visiting the Carnorth Station Heritage Centre, the Refreshment room is a must see. Freshly baked scones and cakes which are baked in house, bit pricey, but well worth it - they're massive The room itself

I stopped in here while waiting for a train I had a toastie which was nice. The staff were polite and helpful. The food is a bit pricey but it's nice to sit somewhere a bit different and pass the time.
