If you're looking for traditional Sri Lankan rice and curry in a touristy spot this is your place. Low key setting and you can see the chefs working away in the kitchen! We were served 4 vegetarian curry's alongside our choice of meat curry with an accompanying papadum and delicious coconut roti. Easily the best food we had in Unawatuna.

This is a tiny place which is very basic, but the Sri Lanka food is very good...maybe the best we had on our trip. Prices were reasonable and all in all we were happy and would like to come back. We had to wait an hour for our food even we were almost the only ones in the restaurant when... More

Lovely restaurant with great service and excellent Sri Lankan curries. As with many restaurants in Unawatuna, alcohol is available on request but is not on the menu for licensing reasons.

We ate here 4 times within 2 days!:) Grandma is cooking for lunch and dinner while grandpa is responsible for the cassa. Grandkids and uncles are also around. It is really a great experience, we loved eating here! Be early, it was full by 6:45. And good news - they are planning to extend the customer area upstairs! Cooking indeed... More

We stayed in Unawatuna 2 weeks and we discovered this little gem after first 3 days. Since then we have not eaten anywhere else, as Happy Spice prepares best curries and Sri Lankas meals. Important to mention that they prepare everything fresh and use all home spices. That means it takes time to prepare it. If you are planning to... More

Staying in Unawatuna? My girlfriend and I skipped the restaurant at the hotel (Flower Garden) and went down to the water in Unawatuna. We ended up in the small family-restaurant Happy Spice. At first we were a bit sceptic about the place, because of the Christmas decorations and blinking lights (in mid-January), but the food was very delicious and worth... More

I had the rice with 4 vegetarian curries. We had to wait 30 minutes, but it was the best curry I have ever had and worth the waiting. The rstaurant could be a bit more inviting ( little details) and table sheets cleaner, however again the food is absolutely delicious.

The food is very good and homecooked, feeling genuine, but the waiting time for preparing each meal can easily go to 1.5 hours. They should remove 1-2 tables to be able to offer better service to go with the nice food!

What a fantastic family run restaurant offering tasty and fresh home cooking. The food here is cooked to order, meaning that your rice and curry is cooked from scratch. This is not a fast food joint, so it will take a while for your meal to arrive when its busy but its worth a bit of nurturing. Take your time... More

Lovely home made authentic food, very tasty and fresh. Went for the cooking school as well and it was a treat to be taught by Chintha and learn about Her life in Unawatuna.
