Great food. This is where the Italians eat

After two nights of disappointing food in Puglia we found this purely by luck. It is a very pretty restaurant, like a series of indoor caves, but prettily done and well lit. We had a lovely table, with lots of space and it was fantastic to see so many Italians eating here. They don't pander to... read more

Tucked in a small alley in Ostuni’s centro storico. The restaurant has a very nice and rustic atmosphere. You can sit in the back and watch how they’re preparing the pasta. The food was very good, especially the orechiette which were made to perfection. The staff was very nice and we even had the pleasure of having a short conversation... More

Having spent a week traveling through Puglia, I can say hand on heart that this restaurant was by far the best I ate at. The restaurant is tucked down an alleyway (that just so happened to be where my apartment was - I 7 Archi). You go down some stairs into this delightful family run restaurant. The menu is simple... We enjoyed our simple meals so much that on our next evening in Ostuni we went back again. This is not a fine dining restaurant. What it is, is a family run gem that offers limited choice but does what it does brilliantly well. On our first visit my husband chose pasta and I had wonderfully tender lamb cutlets with... More

Loved the food and the atmosphere. Open kitchen with what seemed like generations of the same family. Loved the vegetable antipasti. Highly recommend, felt very authentic.

If you wish for traditional Puglian food then this is the place. Very small handwritten menu adds to the charm. The best course is the antipasto platter - which is varied and tasty. Main course is very rustic and limited with plentiful scallop potatoes and choice of grilled meats. Only 3 choices for dessert - the pannecota is recommended. Limited... More

Lovely interior with equally lovely food. When we entered, we were escorted to the back room where we could see the kitchen in all of its glory. Two wise women were actively working on my our handmade food. We tasted freshness in every bite, and the waiters calmly explained any details of the food we wished to know. We are... More

We ate here a couple of times in the last week and have visited previously. The combination of the family atmosphere (mother and daughter + sometimes brother) and Angelo the manager - cousin? is really harmonious. The cooking is simple - home made pasta - made often in front of you - and then meat cooked over an open fire... More

Atmospehere and open kitchen all add to the allure and the steak was excellent - shame we had to wait so long that kids fell asleep and had to constantky ask for service. Fastest response was when we asked for the bill and we still had to leave without getting the coffee we ordered , as it took so long.... More

Ostuni is a tourist destination with the all the implications. However, it is possible to find restaurants that go beyond offering the usual suspects. Casa San Giacomo can be found in a side street, about 100 metres or so from the start of the road leading up to the cathedral. The side road is to the right and is just... More
