Much better than expected!

Extremely nice staff and excellent food - one of the best steaks I've had in a long time and certainly better than your average NZ meal! Nicely presented and good value for real good quality cooking - I would recommend to anyone!

Good food, well presented with nice staff. A Bon Vivant would be happy. Wine list could be wider although what is presented is OK. Old building is lovely and clean.

Several years ago my husband had No.31 Restaurant recommended to him as 'the' place to go in Hanmer Springs. We researched Tripadvisor and found that it was still top of the list. After checking out all other eateries available this ticked the box for us. Hubby had pork belly as starter and was blown away - taste, texture and visually... More

We dined here for our anniversary and it certainly didn't disappoint. The food was excellent and there's a good range of quality wines to choose from. The mains are in the mid $30 range and due to the quality of the food and the portion size, isn't over-priced. The staff were friendly and gave good service; all in all a... More

No 31 gets a "very good" based on the location, i.e it's the best food in Hanmer Springs. Usually i would give a place like this an average just because its still got that rather underdeveloped feel of so many restaurants in NZ. Were just a bit behing basically. However the food at NO 31 is excellent. Average of $34... More

Went here for dinner last night it was amazing every course was better than the last. The whitebait entree was so light and yummy I ate most of my husbands (wishing I had ordered it instead of a coctail) then the pork I ordered for main you could just about break with a fork it was so tender. Well done... More

We dined at No 31 Restaurant and Bar during our trip to Hanmer Springs. The restaurant was recommended by previous guests at our accommodation so we took their advice and booked a table. We were not disappointed. My husband had venison, again, (his favoured meal during our South Island Road Trip) and I had Baked Blue Cod on Smoked Salmon... More

We were late for dinner and hadn't booked anywhere, we had walked past the restaurant during the day and liked the sound of the specials so we tried our luck. We were very lucky, they had turned away other guests and felt really delighted to have the chance to eat here. We absolutely loved our meal. The specials that we... More

Very good restaurant, nice decoration, great food, subtle cuisine. The salmon, the steak, the creme brulee, the chocolate fondant were gorgeous. Definitely, the best food of our NZ trip. The service was friendly, but maybe slightly rough, should be more "elegant" to match the quality and style of the cuisine.
