We will listen to all this friend's recommendations as this restaurant turned out to be the best we've dined in for a while and we would return at any opportunity. The wine list of North Canterbury wines was excellent and contained carefully selected wines from our favourite wineries. The food, as all previous reviewers have commented, was absolutely delicious. The... More

Dropped in unannounced and was welcomed. Menu was varied and contained NZ cuisine. Wines were matched and had a good local selection. Staff were attentive and the meal served was first rate. Well worth a night out and have recommended to friends and now fellow travelers. If you don't visit then you only have yourself to blame...

We dined here as we were spending only one night in Hanmer. Glad we came to No.31 the food was to die for. A quaint little restaurant serving up fine dining and a cosy fireplace for those cold nights.

As part of my wife's 50th birthday surprise I took her to Hanmer Springs for a few days of relaxation. Many years previous we had been in Hanmer and we dined at he Old Post Office restaurant with chef Michael Van De Wiel and it is a memory that has stuck in our heads! Michael has now opened No.31 Restaurant... More

We treated ourselves to this as it was our last night of our 3 week NZ tour. We were not dissapointed. The food was excellent! The beef fillet was cooked to perfection. We also ordered the lamb shank which was equally exceptional. The waiting staff were very friendly and helpful too. I would recommend you book as it gets very... More

Loved everything about this restaurant, came here for dinner and the food couldn't fault! Decided to order the vanilla brulee and it was absolutely divine! But it is a bit of a fine dining stretch so be prepared to pay quite a bit. Restaurants in Hanmer are definitely expensive, but for the quality you do get what you pay for

No 31 was talked up as the best restaurant in Hanmer... and it was! Brilliant food and great wine. However the service was poor - 2 people were looking after the restaurant (which was plenty for such a small floor) however they both kept getting stuck in the bar and appeared to be very flustered by a half full restaurant....
