We travelled to Fort William for a weekend break and also to take a trip on the fabulous Jacobite steam train journey to Mallaig on the Saturday. We chose to have lunch at the Clachain as it was recommended by one of the assistants on the train. We were not disappointed. What a lovely restaurant. We were given a warm... More

Only had a drink here but food looked nice, staff were lovely and friendly. There is a pool table and for such a small place lots of interesting people there!

Lovely service, really nice food, great location. Busy with families but we did eat an early dinner. Only downside was we had look for the waitress to pay the bill. ..

We stopped here for a quick lunch. The restaurant was very busy as the Jacobite train had just arrived. We had a lovely meal but if gluten intolerant be careful. We had the fish which was fine but the potatoes were lightly coated with flour. We told them to leave them off, but they didn't. They may not know the... More

So glad we walked up the hill from the station to the Clachain Inn, at Mallaig, for our evening meal, during our stopover on the afternoon Jacobite train journey. We had some of the best Cullen Skink we've ever tasted, portions were very generous as were the amounts of baguette & butter which accompanied them. We chose fish & chips... More

Competition is strong in Mallaig. The Chlachain were leafleting outside the train station when the Jacobite Express pulled in, though we'd already decided to go there on the basis of other reviews. The menu had plenty of choice and I can't recommend the mussels with black pudding starter highly enough- they were huge fresh mussels, perfectly cooked. Both main courses... More

I visited this restaurant on 26 Aug on a recommendation and was really quite disappointed. I ordered a burger and expected homemade but got what was basically a processed bought in burger which was overcooked. My friend had Cullen Skink which was delicious and good value. We ordered deserts, a portion of ice cream which was fine and a sticky... More

Stopped in between ferry arrival from Skye and departure of the Jacobite steam train. The menu intrigued us, but the food will definitely bring us back if we are in Mallaig again. Staff was great also. Decor is upbeat and fun. Did I mention we loved the fresh Scottish cuisine ?
