Lovely meal

Called in whilst we were in Mallaig lovely fresh fish beautifully cooked and pleasant surroundings that looked recently refurbished. The beer was well kept and the wine lovely.

Having travelled from Fort William to Mallaig by train - one of the most picturesque journeys ever -we had an hour to look around and find lunch. One companion decided he must have a Talisker whisy to celebrate being almost at Skye, but where to go? A number of teashops line the road into the village from the station but... More

I spent the weekend at the Inn and had dinner 1 night. The food was tasty and quite satisfying. I ordered prawns but did not expect the batter. Being a fishing area I expected actual prawns to grasp the true and real fresh flavor.

Another amazing meal in the Steam Inn. Loads of mussels to start in a cream sauce. Scallops with a chorizo mousse and black pudding. Lovely wine. To die for cream egg cheesecake. Majito to finish. Prefect.

In this cold north part of Scotland getting a vegetarian fare was not an issue, thanks to the waiting staff who accommodated our request. Rice and lentil soup was a great combination With the hot potato chips we had on hand........

Not my first, nor my last visit to Steam Inn. Things just keep getting better! Whether applied to accomodation, food and drinks, or atmosphere, I tell you no lie when I say "THE BEST", in every way. One big factor is the staff. From a very warm welcome, to a fond farewell, they can't do enough for you. YES, I... More

Called in for a drink and possible light lunch. Whilst stood at the bar waiting to be served we witnessed the bar maid preparing drinks for other customers and using her FINGERS to put ice in the glasses! Disgusting! We settled on a half a lager and decided to drink it in the sunshine in the beer garden. We were... More

Thank you for taking the time to write your review of the steam inn. We have taken the accusation of our bar staff using their hands for ice very seriously. There are ice scoops available so I am not sure if/why they would choose not to use it, but this matter will be followed up. As for there being a... More

The food quality was O.K., not sensational.(Fish and Chips, for example, were mediocre.) The service was a bit hit and miss, and it was annoying to have to eek out ketchup and vinegar from tiny packets. But, it wasn't crowded, and we enjoyed ourselves by the fireplace on a cold, wet night in Mallaig. Comfy and welcoming.

Nice ambience, good cold beer and comfy seats. Helluva racket coming from the bar area - think there was either a football match being televised or a riot had broken out! Waiting staff were fine. Good variety of specials. Played safe and went for haddock and chips. Came well presented with garden peas. Haddock portion was a bit small, and... More
