Friendly staff, warm cosy atmosphere (real fire) and excellent food. Great menu covering all prices. Lots of local seafood if that's what you like and plenty of options if not.

we recently walked the West Highland Way and used many hotel's, B&B's, restaurants and bars along the route. Once we had completed the way we were going to climb Ben Nevis on day 8. Unfortunately blisters and injuries put paid to that, so we had a nice day out on the train to Mallaig instead. We found this lovely little... More

The staff at the steam inn catered for my stepsons 18th birthday, there were 10 of us. The meal was excellent, prawn cocktail was the best i have tasted and served on a beautiful slate plate, Well done guys and thanks for a brilliant night!

Innovation or invention, call it what you will....the food at the Steam Inn lacks neither quality nor quantity at any time. I doubt very much if anyone could not find something to suit their taste or requirements at any time. Add to this a very keen, attentive staff and there you have it....wonderful! Accomodation is available, which you will find... More

The Steam Inn was a pub that was not too grand but provided a variety of food at a variety of prices. So many places in Mallaig shut early for food so it was either here or one of the more grand and expensive hotels/pubs (that families would use for a proper celebration meal). We stayed in a B and... My boyfriend who never complains about his food, left plenty on his plate. He had seafood noodlesand it contained a couple of bits of fish and mussels. The sauce was thick and the whole meal tasted like the sauce. I had a chicken burger which was good enough. The service was good though.

I had the mussels first day, excellent. So good I came back the next day, and tried the monkfish red curry. Really awesome, monkfish fresh, tender, lovely spicing, really generous portion too ! Don't be fooled by the casual pub vibe, the food is seriously good.

Monkfish Thai Curry - nearest thing to eating soggy tissue in hot, vinegary sauce ever had the displeasure to taste. Needless to say it was sent back (apparently had been reheated from lunchtime - hmmm, nice seafood). Venison pie - okay if you like your puff pastry burnt black. Offered a return visit for a free meal - no thanks,... More

This review is utterly shocking and very suspicious! It was clear that the monkfish curry was not to your liking and was returned. We would never see a customer go unsatisfied so offered another dish of your choice and we did not charge for the monkfish. Maybe you just don't appreciate real seafood? Monkfish curry is one of our best... More
