Quality food in a lovely setting

Having eaten at the Friars Head Akebar a few years ago, before it changed hands and went down a little, we decided to see if it had changed. This is a lovely establishment which sits on the roadside between Leyburn and Bedale. the ambience is really pleasant and the decor adds to the warm... read more

It was a wet night, but then it has been for the last two months.....We have eaten here before and have been very satisfied, hence the reason for returning to The Friars Head in an area where there is plenty of stiff opposition. The food continued to be excellent though I personally dislike additional charges for each individual side dish of... More

Whilst staying at Akebar park we visited the Friars Head for tea. The two gentlemen serving where more than obliging and extremely helpful. We expected a pub setting, however when we arrived the area in which we sat was a finely decorated resteraunt. The food was freshly cooked and of a fantastic quality, we ordered a child's spaghetti bolognase for... More

We have used this restaurant many times over the last 20 years and up til June this year it always provided very good food and friendly efficient service. On our last visit the usual staff were noticeable by their absence and in place of the friendly welcome we have previously experienced we were greeted by a surly individual, who reluctantly... More

Went early November 15, had a touring van and parked in the caravan park for the night. Walked over for a meal and the minute we stepped in felt welcomed and at home. Lazed by a lovely real fire whilst our meal was being cooked, then went into the most beautiful restaurant which was a conservatory with loads of character... More

From the moment you enter the Friars Head you feel the warm, friendly, welcoming atmosphere. We were shown to our table in the stunning conservatory where we enjoyed our superb sunday roast. Our party had the Beef, Pork and Chicken and all were very happy with our choices. We finished with Sticky toffee pudding and ice cream and all left... More

I regularly stop off here when I'm passing through the area or meeting clients for lunch or dinner and have always found it to be excellent. The food, atmosphere and surroundings are lovely. The service I've always found to be prompt and polite. I will definitely be visiting again soon. Derek.

I have known this pub/ restaurant for a long while and it used to serve excellent food with a welcoming smile from the staff. so i was very disappointed when I took my sister and brother in law for a meal on the 9th sept this year. With me being in the hospitality business I always expect a welcoming smile... More
