Called in for a drink while staying in Helmsley. We were welcomed by a member of staff who was more than happy to help us, as it was a rather chilly night we sat by the open fire, we only wanted to call in for a quick G & T but once we got settled next to the fire we... More

Our second visit to the Black Swan , today we opted for the full afternoon tea that was delightful! Good selection of finger sandwiches and more cakes and scones than we could manage to eat. Friendly waiter that could not do enough for us. An excellent way to pass a sunny Sunday afternoon!

This restaurant is terrific, we went there to celebrate our wedding anniversary and from the 'old fashioned champagne cocktail' to the coffee with Bourbon on the rocks, it was wonderful. The staff couldn't have been more attentive with Grant (our waiter for the night) being both very professional and having an excellent sense of humour and the dinner, from the... More

One of the most disgusting cups of tea imaginable. A tea bag was placed in a cup then covered with hot water from a coffee machine and presented with a carton of UHT milk. Charming barmaid, horrible product. My two friends did, however, approve of the draught beer.

Had the tasting menu as part of our hotel package. Very good food and reasonable size portions. Chef also altered 2 of the courses due to our preferences. Also had lunch on 2 days in the lovely gardens which was also very good.

The Black Swan is renowned for its high standards. Being an author/novelist, I stay at many establishments around the country, and abroad. The Black Swan as far as I am concerned, is up there with some of the best. I am fortunate to be a resident of Helmsley, and I find it a real pleasure to pop around to the... More

The moment you walk through the door at The Black Swan, you are greeted by friendly and attentive staff and most important of all, you will be served with the drinks of your choice straightaway. This is a most important element of dining out. Too many restaurants leave you gasping for a drink once they have handed out the menus... More

Surprised the youngest of my three sisters for her fortieth, as she had always wanted to go to the tea room since she had seen an article in the Metro as she now resides in London. Sandwiches were very good and the macaroons lovely. But the scones were excellent, especially with Assam, Ceylon etc blended tea. A mention must go... More

After many years, we visited the Black Swan in Helmsley - a very old family "haunt" going back several generations. The place is full of atmosphere and history, but that needs to be supported by all the other things that go to make a good customer experience. Maybe the prevalence of tourism leads to an attitude that suggests customers will... More
