Description: Surrounded by the picturesque Yorkshire Dales and a perfect stop whilst exploring the area, The Black Swan is comfortably nestled in Fearby, near Masham. Dating back to the 17th century, this public house offers the kind of traditional warm welcome you would expect in the Yorkshire Dales. Run and maintained by three continuous generations of the McCourt family, this pub now provides guest accommodation alongside great ales and food. The public bar overlooks the Burn Valley, with 40-mile views of the Vale of York and local moors. The bar itself is well-stocked with Black Sheep and guest ales, not to mention a host of supporting lagers, bottle beers and soft drinks. Home-cooked bar meals are served during lunchtime and the bistro is open every evening.

Having spent most of Sunday in Helmsley, my partner & I decided to have Afternoon Tea in the garden of the Black Swan. Although the service was a bit hap hazard, we were given wrong drinks, then asked for sweeteners and had to ask a second time, only 3 small sandwiches each - cakes were very nice, at £19+ each... We are staying for a few days in Helmsley - I used Tripadvisor to review the restaurants. The Black Swan had good reviews but the experience surpassed our expectations. We opted for the two course menu but then decided to go for 3 courses. I had the smoked salmon pate with warm fresh bread, delicious. Then for the main course... More

Stopped for a quick lunchtime snack in lovely Helmsley on the South West corner of the North Yorks Moors. Very pleasant and efficient staff running this tea room as part of the Black Swan Hotel. Food delicious, spotlessly clean - a speciality seemed to be afternoon tea but from what we ate and other food that we saw, could recommend... More

Cannot rate this dining experience high enough. The service was excellent, food and wine choice were perfect, A truly wonderful experience, which I look forward to repeating.

Had dinner on a special family occasion. Got to say this was one of the best meals we have had - and we have eaten out a lot. The presentation of the food and flavors were really excellent as was the decor of the restaurant. Will definitely be going back. The only downside was the limited choice.

Thank you to The Black Swan, Helmsley for a wonderful weekend away. Just had a fun weekend that coincided with a biker convention in the town. Easy to find, great welcome. We were given a room at the front of the hotel that while a bit on the small side was really clean and comfortable. Plenty going on with live... More

visited last week on a trip away. Wanted to take the Mrs somewhere a bit special and opted for Black Swann as we were staying nearby. We were seated in the lounge so we could enjoy a drink and look at the menus. The tasting menu, Daily Dinner, and the Market Menu. We were told we could interchange courses on... More

My husband and I (!) visit the Black Swan several times each year, usually around mid-afternoon. It's a lovely place to sit and chat, in front of the open fire in the winter, and in the garden in summer. The coffee and cakes are delicious, and the gluten-free chocolate concoction is out of this world! I'd give it a 5... More

Visited as a late group for afternoon tea. Managed to get a table in the gorgeous gardens sat in the sunshine. The waiter was fantastic (didn't get his name) very friendly and interactive. Afternoon tea was priced at £20 each and it was worth every penny. Absolutely gorgeous. Selection of sandwiches, 2 fruit scones, macaroon, lemon mousse, mini banoffee tart,... More
