Beautiful garden for a relaxing drink

On this warm day, and a family of 5, we simply wanted rest and refreshment. We got both at The Black Swan. Originally entering the tea room we asked if it was possible to have a table outside an were offered the gorgeous gardens at the back of the hotel. A wonderful oasis! The only slight drawback... read more

What a fantastic place. We found it after a visit to the castle and so glad we did. Very friendly, good service and a tasty menu. Dog friendly too.

We brought a party of 11 here for lunch on my 50th birthday. Old and young alike had a great meal. I had the full cream tea and it was delicious. All portions were a good size and the menu has a wide choice. Obviously I particularly recommend the cakes, but the range of teas was impressive too.

We called in for tea and cake after a long walk, the cake was gorgeous. I wasn't up to the high tea but seen other guests tucking in and it looked really lovely. Our little dog was worn out and very hot and a kindly member of staff brought a fresh drink for her, with ice no less, and a... More

I booked the garden room for a special birthday dinner and I was not in the least disappointed. The food is not your usual meat and two veg and if that's what you want then this is not the restaurant for you. It is very much high end cuisine and chef takes great pride in both the quality and presentation.... More

Had a lovely Afternoon Tea as a treat for our Anniversary. Didn't have to book in advance like most places. Five sandwiches, 2 scones and a choice of fancies each. Very yummy and would highly recommend, lovely tearoom.

We visited for afternoon tea and left sincerely impressed, not only with the helpful and friendly staff, who offered to swap tea if we didn't like our more adventurous choice, but also with the high quality of the food. The sandwiches, scones and patisserie were all fabulous! One comment for consideration was on the presentation. One piece of chocolate cake... More

We booked our visit for a Saturday night, with the six course taster menu and wine pairing. We were a bit early, but our room was ready so we booked in and went for a walk around the village. Helmsley is lovely and the Black Swan has the perfect position over looking the square. We had a few drinks whilst... More

We had booked afternoon at the Black Swan. On arrival we were greeted and given our table. The choice of tea was good and an adjustment to cater for a food allergy was no problem. The selection on offer for the Black Swan afternoon tea proved great value for money. The passion fruit posset was a particular favourite, although everything... More

An old travel inn built in the 1600 century and added to along the way? Alas some of it is now in need of a little love and attention, and could do with upgrading and modification to appeal to the travelling public! The Al a cart menu is very expensive and gives very little value for money, unless you are... More
