Birthday treat perfection

We stayed here for one night on a package including afternoon tea dinner B and B as a treat for my husbands birthday. The whole experience was good and we would recommend this as a good value option .

We booked our visit for a Saturday night, with the six course taster menu and wine pairing. We were a bit early, but our room was ready so we booked in and went for a walk around the village. Helmsley is lovely and the Black Swan has the perfect position over looking the square. We had a few drinks whilst... More

We had booked afternoon at the Black Swan. On arrival we were greeted and given our table. The choice of tea was good and an adjustment to cater for a food allergy was no problem. The selection on offer for the Black Swan afternoon tea proved great value for money. The passion fruit posset was a particular favourite, although everything... More

An old travel inn built in the 1600 century and added to along the way? Alas some of it is now in need of a little love and attention, and could do with upgrading and modification to appeal to the travelling public! The Al a cart menu is very expensive and gives very little value for money, unless you are... More

I have had the taster menu with wines at the Black Swan four times prior to my latest trip. On all four previous occasions it has been a wonderful culinary experience, and I left feeling like i had received really good value for money. However that was in 2013. When I went a few weeks ago I was disappointed. The... More

We visited on Saturday 11th July 2015 for a quick lunch. My girlfriend is vegan and therefore asked for a a salad without the goats cheese! - The meal arrived and it was obvious after a bites that the goats cheese has been simply scrapped off the salad! its a good thing she was not allergic! I would not recommend... More

Wonderful setting in North Yorkshire. We visited Helmsley for lunch on a very warm day. A good selection of local produce on the menu in very nice surroundings. In the winter there are roaring fires. Well worth the visit. Reasonable priced food.

This is a lovely looking hotel but for a weekend away we classed it as out of our price range. Although we did enjoy a pot of tea and sampled their home made scones. The scones are the best scones I have ever tasted, and have been back for a scone on every visit to that area since just for... More

Beautiful setting in the heart of North Yorkshire. We were there for a silver wedding celebration which was catered to brilliantly. The staff were courteous & were on hand to fulfil our needs but not at all 'in your face'. Food was good, as we were part of a large party, I don't feel it was excellent. But that could... More
