Lovely atmosphere, rubbish service

We were so excited for our dinner at Grotta Palazzese, but unfortunately the experience started off on the wrong foot for us when the lady maitre d' was so unfriendly, short and basically fairly rude upon our arrival. What a restaurant! Even better than on the pictures, definitely a must do. As expected for a restaurant in such an exceptional location, food is just OK and of course overpriced. Nevertheless it would be a shame not to go there at least once!

I ate hear on a stormy night. The restaurant is truly spectacular and the service was amazing. It is pricey, but I wish I had gone there earlier in my stay. I would have gone every night. The ambiance is a mix of sounds--waves, soft music, the echo of water and doves cooing in the cave interior. There are heat... More

Once in your life you get to experience something like this! Not because you cannot afford to do it twice but because the first time is allways the most special! It is something out of the extraordinary. You will not expect the view or the atmosphere until you get there and actually feel and see it. The food comes second... More

The place is fantastic for a photo op! It is beautifully lighted and I suggest going when it is still light out. Don't expect great food, severely over priced. Just go and eat a plate of pasta and move on with the night and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

We went there for lunch because of the recommendations. Yes, the restaurant is different because it is in the cave. However, the food and the service were really bad. The pasta was appallingly, we could do better at home. Despite there were only 2 tables of customers, the service was not attentive. The toilet was a disgrace. The resturant is... More

The reviews here are spot-on - my advice: know what you're signing up for. It is an absolutely stunning location - bucket list worthy, as far as I'm concerned. To be in the cave grotto, seated on the edge as the waves crash in, watching the sun set - spectacular. Was it great food? No. But it was good -... More

Rarely do I write bad reviews, but I am so torn with this restaurant. We had our wedding anniversary here and I booked four months in advance from Australia requesting a table on the ocean edge for our special occasion. I also emailed the week before confirming our booking and request. The restaurant opens at 7.30pm, we were 15 minutes... More

Fellow reviewers are correct: the location can't be beaten. But the food certainly can. After dining here we ate at a small trattoria in another town and had one of the best meals of our trip. And the cost of that meal (for 2 including wine) was the cost of one course (for one) at Grotta Palazzese. We will always... More

This is certainly a bucket list restaurant destination. Amazing location, right on the cliffs, above an emerald green sea. Wait staff is attentive, but a little bit slow. Food pacing was sporadic as well. Nice wine list. Food was not the best that we have had, while in Italy, but location, location, location.
